What Is Phantom Wallet
Phantom Wallet is a self-custodial cryptocurrency wallet created for storing, receiving, sending, swapping and managing digital assets across several blockchain networks.
Phantom is available as a browser extension and a mobile application. The wallet is designed primarily for Google Chrome, iOS and Android. It can also work as a Chrome extension inside Chromium-based browsers such as Brave, Microsoft Edge and Opera, although Phantom does not provide the same level of official support for those browsers.
Phantom was originally developed as a Solana-focused wallet and became widely used for SOL, SPL tokens, Solana NFTs and decentralized applications. The wallet has since expanded into a multichain product.
The current official network list includes Solana, Ethereum, Base, Polygon, Bitcoin, Sui, HyperEVM and Robinhood Chain. Network support can change, so users should verify the latest list before transferring assets. Official list of supported Phantom networks
Phantom provides tools for viewing portfolio balances, receiving assets, sending cryptocurrency, managing compatible NFTs, swapping tokens, connecting to decentralized applications and reviewing transaction requests.
Phantom is self-custodial. The wallet owner controls the credentials required to access the blockchain accounts. Phantom cannot access a wallet on the user’s behalf, recover a lost Secret Recovery Phrase or reverse a completed blockchain transaction.
How Phantom Wallet Works
Cryptocurrency and NFTs are not physically stored inside the Phantom application.
The assets remain registered on their respective blockchains. Phantom provides an interface for viewing those assets and manages the cryptographic credentials required to authorize transactions.
A traditional Phantom wallet can be created using a Secret Recovery Phrase. This phrase consists of twelve words in a specific order and can derive the private keys associated with the wallet’s accounts.
Phantom also provides selected account-creation methods using Google or Apple. These methods use a different recovery experience and may involve a private PIN. Phantom documentation explains that wallets created through Google or Apple can also have an exportable Secret Recovery Phrase as an additional backup. How Phantom secures wallets
Anyone who obtains the recovery phrase or a private key can control the corresponding assets. A local application password, device PIN or biometric lock does not prevent an attacker with the recovery phrase from restoring the wallet somewhere else.
Phantom Browser Extension
The Phantom browser extension connects compatible websites and decentralized applications to the wallet.
When a website requests a connection, Phantom displays an approval window. The user chooses an account and decides whether to connect.
A basic connection generally allows the website to see the selected public address and request further actions. It does not automatically give the website access to the recovery phrase or private keys.
After connecting, a decentralized application can request message signatures, token approvals, swaps, transfers or smart-contract transactions. Every request should be inspected separately.
Phantom recommends Google Chrome for the most stable extension experience. The Chrome extension may also operate in Brave, Microsoft Edge and Opera because those browsers are based on Chromium.
Phantom does not publish directly to the alternative Chromium browser stores and does not guarantee the same stability on those platforms. Users experiencing problems should test the wallet in an updated version of Chrome. Supported Phantom platforms
Phantom Mobile Wallet
Phantom Mobile is available for supported iOS and Android devices.
The mobile application provides portfolio management, token transfers, swaps, NFT access and an integrated browser for compatible decentralized applications.
On mobile devices, Phantom’s current instructions require decentralized applications to be opened through the wallet’s integrated browser. Connecting from an external mobile browser such as Safari or Chrome is not supported in the same way. Connecting Phantom to applications
A mobile device used for cryptocurrency should have an effective screen lock, current operating system and no suspicious remote-access or screen-sharing applications.
The recovery phrase should never be stored as a screenshot, photograph, cloud file, email or ordinary note on the phone.
Phantom and Solana
Solana is central to Phantom’s history and product identity.
Phantom can manage SOL, compatible SPL tokens, Solana NFTs and interactions with Solana decentralized applications.
SOL is normally required to cover Solana network fees. Certain eligible Phantom operations may use gasless functionality, but users should not assume that every transaction can proceed without SOL.
Solana addresses are separate from Ethereum, Bitcoin and Sui addresses. The correct network address must be selected before receiving assets.
A token using a familiar symbol may exist on multiple networks. The Solana version of USDC is different from USDC on Ethereum, Base or Polygon.
Phantom and Ethereum
Phantom supports Ethereum and compatible Ethereum assets.
The wallet can manage ETH, supported tokens, NFTs and decentralized application connections on Ethereum.
Ethereum transactions require gas. The fee is paid to network validators rather than Phantom and can vary significantly according to network congestion.
Ethereum uses a different address format from Solana. The user should select the Ethereum address before withdrawing ETH or Ethereum tokens from an exchange.
Phantom and EVM Networks
Phantom supports several EVM-compatible networks, including Ethereum, Base, Polygon, HyperEVM and Robinhood Chain.
These networks can share the same Ethereum-style public address format. Their balances remain separate.
ETH on Ethereum is different from ETH on Base or Robinhood Chain. A matching address does not mean that assets automatically move between those networks.
Phantom does not allow users to add arbitrary custom networks manually. Only networks integrated directly into the application can be activated. Phantom custom-network policy
Phantom and Bitcoin
Phantom supports native Bitcoin using compatible Bitcoin address formats.
Bitcoin accounts and balances remain separate from Solana, Ethereum and other network accounts.
Before receiving BTC, the user should copy the Bitcoin address directly from Phantom and verify that the sending platform supports the same Bitcoin network and address type.
Wrapped Bitcoin on an EVM or Solana network is not the same as native BTC. The network must be checked carefully before every withdrawal.
Phantom and Sui
Phantom supports the Sui blockchain.
Sui uses its own address and transaction environment. SUI and Sui-based tokens should be sent only to the Sui address displayed inside Phantom.
A Solana or Ethereum-style address should never be substituted for a Sui receiving address.
Network availability and decentralized application support should be checked inside the latest Phantom version.
Phantom and NFTs
Phantom provides an interface for viewing and managing compatible NFTs and digital collectibles.
NFTs remain stored on their respective blockchains. Phantom displays ownership information associated with the wallet’s public addresses.
The wallet may automatically hide NFTs that resemble spam or cannot be verified through supported trust signals. A hidden NFT can still exist on the blockchain even when it does not appear in the main gallery. Managing Phantom collectibles
An unexpected NFT should not be treated as a gift automatically. Scam collectibles can contain misleading links or encourage the user to approve a dangerous transaction.
The collection name, contract address, network and marketplace verification should be investigated before interacting with an unfamiliar NFT.
Phantom Security
Phantom includes transaction previews, spam detection, suspicious-asset warnings and automatic wallet-lock settings.
These features can help users identify certain risks but cannot guarantee that every website, token or smart contract is safe.
The Secret Recovery Phrase is the most sensitive wallet credential. It should be written down and stored securely offline.
Phantom Support will never ask for the recovery phrase, private key or recovery PIN. Anyone requesting these credentials is attempting to take control of the wallet. Phantom security recommendations
Phantom also warns about fake support accounts, fraudulent emails, lookalike websites and counterfeit applications. The official domain is phantom.com.
Phantom does not operate an official Discord support server. A Discord account claiming to provide official Phantom Support should be treated as fraudulent. Official Phantom support warning
Phantom Wallet FAQ
Is Phantom Wallet free to download
Phantom can be downloaded and installed without an application purchase fee.
Creating a standard wallet is also free. Blockchain operations can still require network fees.
Swaps, bridges and integrated third-party services may include additional charges. The user should review the complete quote before approving a transaction.
Is Phantom a self-custodial wallet
Yes. Phantom is a self-custodial wallet.
The user controls the wallet credentials and authorizes transactions. Phantom does not hold the assets like a centralized exchange.
Self-custody means that Phantom cannot recover a lost Secret Recovery Phrase or reverse a transfer.
Is Phantom only a Solana wallet
No. Phantom began as a Solana-focused wallet but has expanded to multiple blockchains.
The current official network list includes Solana, Ethereum, Base, Polygon, Bitcoin, Sui, HyperEVM and Robinhood Chain.
Support should be verified before each transfer because the product can change.
Does Phantom support Ethereum
Yes. Phantom supports Ethereum and compatible Ethereum assets.
The wallet can receive ETH, manage supported Ethereum tokens, display compatible NFTs and connect to Ethereum decentralized applications.
Ethereum gas fees are normally paid using ETH.
Does Phantom support Bitcoin
Yes. Phantom supports native Bitcoin.
Users should select the Bitcoin account and copy the Bitcoin address shown by Phantom.
Native BTC must not be sent to a Solana or Ethereum address.
Does Phantom support Base
Yes. Phantom supports Base.
Base uses an Ethereum-style address and normally uses ETH for standard network fees.
Base balances remain separate from Ethereum mainnet balances even when the public address is identical.
Does Phantom support Polygon
Yes. Phantom supports Polygon.
The user should select Polygon when sending or receiving assets intended for that network.
Tokens on Polygon remain separate from identically named tokens on Ethereum, Base or another blockchain.
Does Phantom support Sui
Yes. Phantom supports Sui.
Sui uses a dedicated address and network environment. Sui assets should be transferred only through the Sui network.
Does Phantom support BNB Smart Chain
No. BNB Smart Chain is not included in Phantom’s current official supported-network list.
Phantom does not allow arbitrary custom networks to be added manually.
Users who require BNB Smart Chain should use a wallet that explicitly supports it.
Does Phantom support Arbitrum
Arbitrum is not currently included in Phantom’s official supported-network list.
An Ethereum-style Phantom address can exist as a valid address on Arbitrum, but that does not mean Phantom can display or manage Arbitrum assets.
Users should not send assets through Arbitrum when the intention is to manage them directly in Phantom.
Does Phantom support Optimism
Optimism is not currently listed as a supported Phantom network.
An EVM-compatible address format does not create wallet support automatically.
Assets transferred on an unsupported network may require a separate compatible wallet for recovery.
Can custom networks be added to Phantom
No. Phantom supports only networks integrated directly by its developers.
Users cannot manually enter an arbitrary RPC URL and chain identifier in the same way as they can with some EVM-focused wallets.
A wallet supporting custom networks may be required for other chains.
Can Phantom store NFTs
Phantom can display and manage compatible NFTs on supported networks.
The presence of an NFT in the wallet does not prove that it is authentic or safe.
Unsolicited collectibles should be treated as potential spam.
Why is an NFT hidden in Phantom
Phantom can hide an NFT when its systems identify suspicious characteristics or cannot verify the collection through supported sources.
A hidden collectible may still exist on-chain.
Users should verify the contract and collection before choosing to display or interact with it.
Can Phantom swap cryptocurrency
Phantom provides an integrated swap interface for compatible tokens and networks.
Before confirming a swap, review the selected assets, networks, expected output, slippage, price impact and fees.
Low-liquidity assets can produce poor execution or failed transactions.
Does Phantom charge swap fees
Phantom can charge a fee on selected swap pairs.
The current official swap documentation describes a Phantom fee of zero point eight five percent on selected pairs. Network, bridge and liquidity-provider fees can also apply. Phantom swap guide
Fees and eligibility can change. The quote displayed before confirmation should be treated as authoritative for that transaction.
Can Phantom bridge assets
Phantom supports selected cross-chain swaps and bridge routes.
A bridge can involve smart contracts, liquidity providers and fees on more than one network.
Cross-chain operations can take longer than standard same-network transfers.
What is a Secret Recovery Phrase
A Secret Recovery Phrase is the master backup for a compatible self-custodial wallet.
Phantom describes its traditional recovery phrase as twelve words in a specific order.
Anyone who obtains those words can generally restore the wallet and transfer the assets.
Can Phantom recover a lost recovery phrase
No. Phantom cannot view, reset or reconstruct a recovery phrase.
If the wallet remains accessible on another device, the user should follow official backup instructions before losing access.
No legitimate recovery service can obtain a missing phrase from Phantom.
Is the Phantom password the same as the recovery phrase
No.
The password protects the local application or extension. The recovery phrase controls restoration of the wallet and its derived accounts.
Changing the local password does not protect a wallet whose recovery phrase has been exposed.
What happens if the recovery phrase is stolen
The wallet should be treated as permanently compromised.
The attacker can restore it on another device without knowing the local Phantom password.
The safer response is normally to create a new wallet with new credentials and move legitimate remaining assets when it is safe to do so.
Can Phantom reverse a completed transaction
No. Phantom cannot reverse a confirmed blockchain transaction.
The recipient, network, token and amount should be verified before signing.
A small test transfer is recommended before moving a substantial balance to a new address.
Can Phantom be used on a phone and computer
Yes. A compatible Phantom wallet can be restored across supported devices using the appropriate recovery method.
Restoring the wallet does not move the assets. It gives another device access to the same blockchain accounts.
Every additional device must be trusted and secured.
Is Phantom available for Chrome
Yes. Google Chrome is Phantom’s recommended desktop browser.
The extension should be installed through the official Phantom download page and its verified Chrome Web Store destination.
Does Phantom work with Brave
The Chrome extension can operate in Brave.
Phantom describes Brave as available but not officially supported at the same level as Chrome.
Users experiencing unexpected behavior should switch to an updated Chrome installation.
Does Phantom work with Microsoft Edge
The Chrome extension can work in Microsoft Edge because Edge is based on Chromium.
Phantom does not publish directly to the Edge extension store and does not guarantee the same stability as Chrome.
Does Phantom work with Opera
The Chrome extension can operate in Opera as a Chromium-based browser.
Opera is not supported at the same level as Chrome. The installation should still begin from the official Phantom download page.
Does Phantom support Firefox
Phantom’s current platform documentation states that the Firefox extension no longer receives updates.
Users should migrate to a currently supported platform rather than continue relying on an outdated wallet extension.
Does Phantom support Safari
No. Phantom currently lists Safari as unavailable.
Mac users can install Phantom through Google Chrome or use the official mobile application on a compatible iPhone.
Can Phantom connect to decentralized applications
Yes. Phantom can connect to compatible decentralized applications.
On desktop, the connection is normally handled through the browser extension.
On mobile, the decentralized application should be opened inside Phantom’s integrated browser.
Does a website need the recovery phrase to connect
No.
A normal wallet connection requires approval of a public account. It never requires the Secret Recovery Phrase.
Any website requesting the phrase should be closed immediately.
Is Phantom safer than an exchange
Phantom and centralized exchanges use different custody models.
Phantom gives the user direct control of wallet credentials. A centralized exchange normally controls the private keys associated with customer deposits.
Phantom removes dependence on exchange withdrawal approval but makes the user responsible for backups and transaction security.
Is Phantom suitable for beginners
Phantom has an accessible interface and can be suitable for careful beginners.
Ease of use does not eliminate blockchain risk. New users should understand networks, addresses, gas fees, token approvals and irreversible transactions.
Starting with a small test balance is safer than immediately transferring significant assets.

Important Risks and Pitfalls
A fake Phantom extension can steal the recovery phrase
A counterfeit mobile application can replace receiving addresses
A lookalike domain can imitate the official website
A local password does not replace the recovery phrase
An unsolicited NFT can contain a phishing link
A token approval can remain active after disconnecting a website
A signature can authorize an important action
A failed transaction may still consume a network fee
A bridge can involve smart-contract and liquidity risks
An identical EVM address can have separate balances on different networks
An unsupported network transfer may require recovery through another wallet
A recovery phrase supplied by another person is already compromised
Clipboard malware can replace a copied address
No legitimate support agent needs a recovery phrase, private key or PIN.
Benefits of Phantom Wallet
Phantom combines cryptocurrency and NFT management in a streamlined interface.
Its original Solana focus provides strong compatibility with the Solana ecosystem, while expanded network support allows users to manage Ethereum, Base, Polygon, Bitcoin, Sui and other integrated assets.
Mobile and browser versions make Phantom practical for everyday transfers, portfolio monitoring and decentralized application access.
Integrated swaps and cross-chain routes can reduce the need to move between unrelated interfaces.
Transaction previews, spam detection and suspicious-asset warnings provide useful security context.
Phantom Advantages Over Other Wallets
Phantom offers a polished interface designed for both tokens and digital collectibles.
Its Solana integration remains an important advantage for users active in that ecosystem.
Expanded multichain support allows several different blockchain address types and balances to be managed through one application.
Phantom’s NFT organization and spam filtering can be more convenient than checking every collectible manually through an explorer.
Its integrated browser simplifies mobile decentralized application access.
Phantom is not the best choice for every network. It does not allow arbitrary custom EVM networks, and users who depend on BNB Smart Chain, Arbitrum, Optimism or Avalanche may require another wallet.
Useful Phantom Information
Public addresses can be shared for receiving compatible assets.
Recovery phrases, private keys and recovery PINs must never be shared.
Solana, Ethereum, Bitcoin and Sui require different receiving addresses.
EVM networks can share an address format while maintaining separate balances.
The Solana network is always active in Phantom and cannot be disabled.
Supported optional networks can be managed through the Active Networks settings.
Deleting Phantom does not remove assets from the blockchain.
Reinstalling Phantom requires a valid recovery method.
Phantom cannot reverse confirmed transactions.
Phantom cannot recover stolen funds.
A public address and transaction identifier can normally be used for legitimate troubleshooting.
A recovery phrase should never be used for troubleshooting.
