Quarter 3 Special Announcement :

Parents,

We wanted to reach out and let you know about the unit we will be working on when we return from Christmas break. The unit we will be working with is called “Surviving the Unthinkable”. In this unit, we will be looking at characters, stories, and novels that overcome obstacles and trying times in their lives. Our goal is to look at these stories and talk about what it takes to survive the unthinkable. With this unit, we will also be taking a look at what was going on in the world with events surrounding The Holocaust, 9/11, The Titanic, Hurricane Katrina, and Southern Sudan in 1985. We will be focusing on what was going on in the world during those events, in order to give students a better understanding of what their book is about. We will not be going into the details of the events, but rather looking at and comparing what was going on in the world at those times. With this unit, students will be reading one of the following books depending on their NWEA scores:

If you have any questions regarding this unit, please feel free to reach out to us by email. We also encourage you to talk with your students about their books and learn along with them!
