That information would be correct.The N grade may be used for transfer students only when grades cannot be obtained...N grades may be applied only for out-of-district transfer students whose grades cannot be obtained. (Dr. P)
If a student is an in-county transfer or has not attended school, there would be no grades to enter and the field should be left blank. You can't enter grades you don't have, and grades should not be "created." At the high school level, students who have been "scheduled to a course for less than 21 days," have always been an exception to missing grades, and therefore should be left blank and explained to your T3 trainer in your ready-to-print email.-----

Q: We have a new student who just came in and was not enrolled previously in any school; hence, does not have any grades for 1st Qtr. What grade should we assign him for 1st Qtr? AP 5121 doesn't cover students enrolling from out of district after 1st Qtr progress report grading with only about a week remaining before 1st Qtr report card grading. Can we assign the N grade?
A (from Assing): The student will not have proof of any grades for 1st Quarter Report Cards, so an N grade can be given-----

Q: We have a new student who attended James Madison MS (PGCPS) last year but had not attended any high school prior to his enrollment at Wise today, 11/1/22. Hence, he has no incoming grades for 1st quarter. Should we assign him a grade of 'N' or just leave his grades blank for 1st quarter?
A (from Ms. Contee):Since the student enrolled on 11/1, the student should have blanks for all grades.------

This student has (not been in school this year / transferred to Wise HS from another country/district) and came in with no grades. Please enter a grade of 'N' for 1st Qtr.

Changing N GradesPer Tia Simmons (email on 4/22/24):My understanding is that the N grades get replaced with the grades from the other school(s). A grade change is not needed for an "N" grade.

Q: What about out-of-district transfers who enrolled after the 1st quarter progress report grading but before the end of the 1st quarter and came in with no grades?
Ans (Per Steven Curry via chat on 10/31/25):The N grade and the policy around it was created for the scenario where a student enters PGCPS without documented grades from an accredited educational institution. The N should be applied.
