Welcome to Longfields Elementary Counseling Department!
My name is Laureen Brock and I have been an Elementary Professional School Counselor in Prince George's County Public Schools for the past 25 years. I have had the privilege of being at Longfields ES for the past 7 years. I provide counseling services for all the students in Grades Pre-K thru Grade 5. As the Elementary School Counselor, I provide direct counseling services to students which include: teaching classroom lessons, small group and/or individual counseling sessions. Small group and individual counseling sessions are 30 minutes per week and last 6-8 weeks. on a variety of topics such as: (feelings/emotions; coping skills, learning syles/study skills, grief/loss, self-esteem, friendship, problem-solving, conflict management, decision making, peer pressure).
I coordinate several school wide events throughout the year such as: Red Ribbon Week- Oct. 27-31, 2025 ; American Education Week- November 17-21, 2025; Peace Week ( 2nd week in February) and Career Day - March 13, 2026-(If you would like to participate and talk about your career or job on Career Day, please let me know).
Assistance for parents is provided but not limited to:
Parent /Teacher Conferences, Parent Meetings,
*SIT ( School Instructional Team) Chair - scheduling meetings/conferences with parents and teachers to help provide resources for families; students and to discuss attendance, academic, social/emotional and other concerns.
*Collaborating with other school staff: ( Principal, School Nurse, Community School Coordinator, Mental Health Clinician, PPW ( Pupil Personnel Worker) on various concerns such as attendance, academics, medical/health related concerns.
