Horsham, PA | A private golf club located in Horsham, Pennsylvania, with 275 golfing members focused on excellence in golf and the accompanying F&B services and products. The club is over 30 years old and is held in high esteem by the local community and the regional golfing community and associations. ABOUT THE ROLE:
The Director of Golf (D.O.G.) is the leader of the golf operations department and displays the highest levels of integrity, teamwork, leadership, innovative thinking, planning/organization, and mentoring. This manager is responsible for creating and maintaining a high energy, detail oriented, and highly respected and achieving operation. Responsible for all hiring and training of golf professionals, golf shop associates, outside services personnel, caddie master, and valets, this manager consistently guides and motivates the team to perform at or above member and owner expectations. The D.O.G. is one of several key directors ensuring the overall successes of the club in both financial and operational services.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Hire, train, schedule and hold accountable, the golf operations team consisting of golf professionals, golf shop associates, merchandiser/buyer, caddie master, outside services personnel, and day-time valet attendants.
Conducts and chairs all team and departmental meetings on a consistent basis.
Conducts all annual employee reviews during the anniversary week of each employee.
Establish, suggest improvements, price fairly and with fiscal responsibility, and manage/supervise the tournament programs, which includes but is not limited to: coordinating F&B needs; designing formats; conducting by U.S.G.A. rules and handling any conflicts and / or rules issues as applicable; and providing for, and ordering/distributing, all resulting prizes, awards, and annual tournament board updates, etc.
Ensures Member and guests satisfaction by managing daily operations which includes holding the team accountable for the established and agreed upon levels of service and efforts, by being organized, a good communicator, positive motivator and mentor, and proactive manager.
Leading by example. Working holidays and an overall schedule that communicates his/her dedication and devotion to the club and the leadership position.
Meets monthly with caddie master and head golf professional and general manager to review past performance and future obligations, performance, policies, and events.
Enforces consistently and with fairness and tact, all rules and regulations that apply to both team members and members of the club as they relate to his/her department.
Develops, oversees, and participates in the golf instruction program offerings.
Plays golf with a wide variety of the members at C.N.G.C. and in selected Pro-Am(s) thereby developing good relationships, and opportunities to hear what members are saying and feeling while also giving him/her the opportunity to proactively promote the club, resolve possible issues or misconceptions, and promote the club’s team members, service(s) and products for sale.
Promote and sell golf outings and by doing so achieving financial goals in this area, as well as conducting these events in a manner that promotes membership sales, positive word-of-mouth marketing, and future and repeat outing sales.
Attends all Board of Governor meetings as requested from time to time, and all Golf and Green Committee meetings as scheduled.
Oversee and achieve a respected and financially successful merchandising program as per budgeted goals; and perform quarterly physical inventory(s) and monthly spot checks of high volume and high-cost items; as well as a full annual physical inventory on or by January 2 of the following year.
Conducting payroll audits and submitting payroll every other week according to finance department standard operating procedure and policy.
Create a welcoming and detail-oriented environment for members and guests and outings alike.
Budgeting, forecasting, and driving revenues and controlling costs to provide ownership with consistent financial results reflective of annual budget(s) and goal(s).
Develop and maintain a positive and consistent relationship with the golf course superintendent and his/her team, keeping open lines of communication and developing policies and procedures that can be counted upon to ensure the highest level of golf course conditioning and set up daily and for special events and tournaments.
Make, maintain, and provide accurate and timely updates and communications through the club website, newsletters, special announcement/email blasts, and interclub email/communications to department heads and team members, ensuring consistency and effectiveness in all areas.
Maintain positive interpersonal and professional relationships with all department heads, supervisors/team members, general manager, and ownership.
Support the membership sales and retention efforts by effectively operating the golf department at level that exceeds member expectations, and by supporting directly the Membership Director’s efforts by assisting with tours, new member orientations, conflict resolution, and in any other manner necessary.
Assist the locker room team(s) by properly providing on a timely basis, in advance, special needs, daily needs, and event-related services necessary to be performed/executed by the L/R team.
Provide the membership through the website and the use of the social media platforms promotions of and by the golf professional team and golf shop events, offerings, and services through video lessons/tips, newsletter(s), updates, course availability, seasonal specials, merchandising videos and sales, etc.
Consistently represent the club and brand projecting the highest possible image and presentation of self and by always talking positively about ownership, management, members, and the team.
All of the above, and any other duties and responsibilities added from time to time by the general manager and or ownership.
EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS
Including but not limited to, the following:
Class A PGA Member in good standing
At least 3 years of Head Golf Professional experience
College degree preferred
Strong budgetary and operational management skills with experience in recruiting, hiring, training, and mentoring a solid golf operation(s) team
Excellent leadership and organizational skills
Expert level knowledge of golf instruction and complimentary technology
Good experience with social media and all modes of communications and promotions
Excellent interpersonal and conflict resolution skills
Projects a confident, diplomatic, and professional presence
Proficient in industry technology and their practical uses
Golf outing sales and supervision
Development and use of S.O.P.s in training and running of operation(s)
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
Full time year-round position with full benefits to include:

Expectation of typical workweek:
In-season: 45 – 55 hours depending on week’s events/time of season/club activity, spread equitably and efficiently between, all areas of responsibility while not over-extending self in golf instruction thereby allowing for assistant golf professionals to earn incremental income and to develop member relationships that will enhance their effectiveness and career advancement.
Off-season: 30 – 35 hours spread equitably and efficiently in all areas of responsibility while allowing for some downtime for self and team to recover and reinvigorate for the next season.
