Industry Opportunity Workshops

Industry led STEM workshops are available to Petroc students to attend. Local industries come in to visit learners and provide insights into what working in these different STE(A)M workplaces would be like.

Mr Steve Jones, the Regional Manager, came to meet with students to discuss career options related to electronics and cover the operation of companies working across the world. He also explained the skill set required, not only to build circuit boards but also for CAD designers, and creative problem solvers - he explained how in later on in life you may need to build a circuit board to solve a problem, even if you are not planning a career in electronics! Mr Steve Jones can also talked about his business as a case study, and explain the roles of marketing, sales and production management.

Steve Jones kindly came to Petroc last week to give our Business Enterprise students an insight into the company Eurocircuits. Although the students don’t currently have any direct links with circuit board designs, they found it interesting to learn more about how the company has grown and developed over the years, ensuring that they remain competitive and how they have adapted to changes in the market.

The students enjoyed questioning Steve about how Euro Circuits may be affected by Brexit in the future. They were also extremely impressed with his unusual and creative Business cards (as was I!)! Our Business Enterprise students are currently in the process of setting up their own company and found it useful hearing Steve talk about how providing an excellent service to his customers helps the company to maintain their well-established reputation and gives them an advantage over their competitors

Steve also visited the engineering students, talking to the BTEC level 3 engineering students about the manufacturing process of circuit boards.

Petroc also delivers higher education foundation degrees and some of the learners who are studying on the Electronic Engineering degree course also came into college to hear Steve and chat to him after his presentation about the business in general and compare and contrast different types of circuitry. They said that they were very glad they took the time to come in to meet Steve.
