Petroc STEAM

Collaborative across curriculum and cross community practice towards a sustainable future

Be part of something BIG! - exploring STEAM skills can support you in all aspects of your life! Welcome to 2019-20 college year.

This website brings together all our planned STEAM activities in one place. They are for everyone and anyone connected with Petroc. They offer enrichment, work experience opportunities, interesting conversations, the chance to make new friends and explore career options.

STEAM opportunities are far reaching - travel the world!

The STE(A)M activities and projects set up, undertaken and shared, all aim to promote the value and chance to develop STE(A)M skills within the contact of working as a global citizen towards a sustainable future. Projects facilitated last academic year (2018-19) for example included, industrial workshops, development of coding skills, and working with a rural community in Tanzania - Buturi Project. This year students have the opportunity to work towards Crest Awards, to apply their research and creativity to very real world problems, and contribute to a sustainable future - as well as receive a prestigious STEM Gold certificate to support their careers and UCAS applications.

Rewarding work experience opportunities - get applying!

Collaboration within North Devon, our local community and across the world: STEM gives us the chance to work positively with others. As well as working with people from Buturi, Tanzania, we will also be working with junior and secondary schools through out the year and look forward to making contact with other professionals and teachers all working to highlight the value to a positive attitude towards engaging in STEAM skills. Brayford primary School and Ilfracombe Junior School are two who have already showed in interest in being part of the Robot Coding Project, and Ilfracombe are also interested in working on the Litter Project.

Sustainable Development Goals

17 Goals to Transform Our World

In 2015, countries adopted the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its 17 Sustainable Development Goals. In 2016, the Paris Agreement on climate change entered into force, addressing the need to limit the rise of global temperatures.

The new Goals are unique in that they call for action by all countries, poor, rich and middle-income to promote prosperity while protecting the planet. They recognise that ending poverty must go hand-in-hand with strategies that build economic growth and addresses a range of social needs including education, health, social protection, and job opportunities, while tackling climate change and environmental protection.

The purpose of these cross-curriculum activities are also to highlight the existence of these global goals, and encourage everyone to see themselves as Global Citizens working together, as one team, with one world to share between all
