About me

Hello, Buffalo Nation! My name is Minerva (Martinez) DeLeon. I am a 1984 graduate of Petersburg I.S.D. I was born in Floydada, Texas but, grew up in Petersburg where I attended Kindergarten through 12th grade. I obtained my bachelor's degree from Wayland Baptist University in 1999.

I am so grateful for the opportunity to be a teacher at Petersburg and love that I can continue to be a part of the school and community. I have so many great memories at Petersburg that will forever be embedded in my heart. I have always wanted to be a teacher, but life took me in another direction in 1987 when I took a job working for an insurance company. In 2017, that insurance company closed it's doors and I made the decision to pursue a career in teaching. In 2018, I obtained a teaching certificate while working as a sub between Lorenzo and Petersburg. In 2019, a high school English teacher position was offered, and I gladly accepted.

2020 has certainly been a rough year due to the Coronavirus pandemic that cut the school year short right after spring break. A lot of adjustments and changes had to be made in a short amount of time in an attempt to continue educating students for the rest of the school year. It also made a tremendous impact on our own personal lives financially, socially and emotionally. I know this upcoming school year will be a challenge at first, but I also believe it will get better. Our school and community have always pulled together to power through the most difficult of times. I have faith that we will overcome! So, let's make the best of it and have a GREAT year!
