Dear Parents/Guardians,
Each year Genoa will be using Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS). PBIS is a set of ideas and tools used to improve the behavior of students. During class time, the students will learn and model the appropriate behavioral expectations for the classroom, hallways, cafeteria, bus, specials, playground and inside recess. Through modeling and practicing the appropriate behaviors, students should understand the school- wide expectations.
One aspect of PBIS is to reward students for modeling positive behaviors. Most grades will be using Class DoJo points or a ticket system in which students earn points for good behavior. The positive points earned can be used for incentive activities, and treats. Rewarding students for modeling positive behaviors is more likely to improve behavior instead of using punitive measures.
Another part of PBIS is to provide interventions as needed for students who are struggling with behavior. These interventions could include reteaching appropriate behaviors, having students reflect on their behavior or providing the students with a behavior plan which rewards students for using appropriate behavior in school.
In order to communicate daily with our families, teachers will communicate through Remind, take home folders or calls home. Families will be notifies when a students behaviors warrants corrective action. This corrective action may be a conversation with the teacher, counselor or principal, attending a behavior class with corrective behaviors taught, or Behavior reinforcement during incentive.
Thank you for your cooperation in supporting your child’s growth and development through our positive behavior program.
Sincerely,
Mandy Gardinsky
Genoa Principal
