So many lost so much in the flood that devastated rural Eastern Kentucky on July 28, 2022. Buckhorn School and Robinson Elementary School, two of the eight public schools within Perry County, were wiped away in an instant. The flood damage was extensive, as you can see in the photos, and neither building will be operable for quite some time. On top of losing their school, many of the students and staff of Buckhorn and Robinson have lost their homes, their belongings, and some have even lost loved ones.
The Perry County School District is working diligently to ensure that the schools maintain as much normalcy as possible. Although they will not be in the original buildings, the students and the staff members will remain together. Each school will occupy their own wing of the former A.B. Combs Elementary School.

The classrooms were bright, inviting, and ready to welcome students for the upcoming year. The staff members need our help to create the same feeling, a feeling of home, at A.B. Combs. Our goal is to have the former A.B. Combs Elementary School building ready to move in as soon as possible. One obstacle that we're facing now is the outdated playground equipment. With all of the loss and changes that our students are facing, we'd love to be able to bring them as much joy as possible.
We've created an Amazon Wish List with a few pieces of equipment. We understand that playground equipment is a bit more pricey than the usual classroom supply, so if you'd prefer to send a gift card to be used to purchase the equipment then we'd be grateful!
