7. In Class: Bill Nye - Erosion
8. In Class: Breaking Me Up - Weathering Processes
There are various weathering and erosional agents in the world - samples are available everywhere:
Each student will find an example of one of these agents in an object (rock, building material, etc) and briefly share with the class why they believe it is that agent.
1pt for "example", 2pts for explanation, and 3pts for being correct.
Due by the end of the unit but can be shared at any time...
Use the Phet simulation site to create glaciers that move up and down mountains.

Watch the video of water erosion. The beach is being eroded away; what is the cause? How is speed of water a factor?
Here are pictures of beaches along the eastern coastline. Explain why the beaches in Maine are different from the Jersey Shore and South Carolina.
Scenario: You own beachfront property in Virginia (at the location with the “Star” on the map above) and are constantly losing shoreline. Describe what you can do to reclaim your beach. What are costs for this project? What affects will this have on your neighbors to the South? Draw a sketch of your shoreline and your reclamation plan to show to your city council for approval
Below are before and after images of the Jersey shore after Hurricane Sandy.
Slide 1: What has happened? Where is all the sand?
Slide 2: After all the sand was moved, there were rocks exposed. What are those rocks? What were they there for in the first place?

Write important notes about each section of the articles
Describe a situation from the article that is an example of the affects of “DEFLATION.” AND, explain what deflation is:
3. Describe a situation from the article that is an example of the affects of “Wind Deposition.” AND, explain what DUNES are:
Instructions: Watch the video “Mass Movements” and then do the following:
1. Create a disaster scenario for each of the 4 types of mass movements. Include a) a sketch b) a definition of each type; c) a cause for the actual movement; and d) a solution (cure) that could prevent the disaster in the first place.
Here is a link list for more information: Mass Wasting, Slides, Creep
2. Answer any questions that accompany the 4 movement sections.
In your groups, decide how each weathering agent works and come up with a scenario solution.
