Culinary Essentials provides students with theory of food preparation and hands-on opportunities to develop basic culinary skills through planning, preparing, and serving food. Good nutrition, safety and sanitation and proper food preparation techniques are emphasized in this course. The skills learned in this course will be used throughout the student’s life. A lab fee is required. 9th, 10th, 11th & 12th Grades
Classic Cooking builds on skills learned in Culinary Essentials. It is a course for students who enjoy cooking and wish to acquire more basic cooking techniques. Students gain knowledge and practical skills in the areas of food safety and menu planning. They prepare salads, yeast breads and have the opportunity to develop and use cake decorating skills in a cake decorating contest. Students will develop restaurant etiquette skills they will use throughout their lifetime. A lab fee is required. 9th, 10th, 11th & 12th Grades
This course explores foods and traditions from around the world. Students build on the skills learned in Culinary Essentials with more advanced food preparation. It is an advanced study of foods, nutrition, careers and consumerism with an emphasis on creativity in meal planning, entertaining, and gourmet cooking. It is offered to students interested in advanced cooking methods, equipment, and ingredients. Multi-Cultural Cuisine is a high level food course especially for students planning a career in foods or the hospitality industry. A lab fee is required. 10th, 11th & 12th Grades
