A course designed to help students manage their lives and promote independence through a better understanding of clothing care, consumer education, obtaining a first job, money management, wise decision making skills, and nutrition & food preparation. This course teaches students how to improve their home and life skills through a practical approach. A lab fee is required. 9th & 10th Grades
This course aims to provide young adults with opportunities to obtain information and develop skills necessary to live on their own as knowledgeable consumers. Instruction enables a student to experience living on their own through a classroom simulation which involves exploring careers, obtaining an apartment, buying a car, managing money and credit, and consumer education. This course is an excellent exit course for juniors and seniors as they prepare to enter the real world as independent, self-sufficient young adults. 11th & 12th Grades
This course allows students to explore career options in a setting outside of school. Each student will be assigned to a job placement in the community under the supervision of an employer. This is an opportunity to gain credit through practical work experience. This course is recommended for students who are interested in exploring a specific career field after graduation. External placement in the community is contingent on completion of all class work as well as adherence to rules set forth by the Senior Internship Coordinator. Students will be required to meet in school with the Senior Internship Instructor periodically to review progress and reflect on their work experience. A portfolio will be created as a culmination of the experience in the workplace. 12th Grade
