What is Work Study?
Students will engage in a specific career area where they will learn technical skills in a paid work experience. There will be a training plan and agreement between the school, student, parent/ guardian and employer supervised by the work based learning facilitator. Students will receive grades and wages.

Work-Based Learning Career Jumpstart Course Description
9132 - 2 Credits, 9133 - 3 Credits, 9134 - 4 Credits
Grade 12
Prerequisite - 2.0 G.P.A. and 90% attendance

The Work-Based Learning Career Jumpstart course is designed to provide Penn Manor High School students the opportunity to earn credits while learning the skills for future careers. The goal of this course is to help students achieve a high-priority, high-skill, and high-paying career. The Career Jumpstart course is a 2-4 credit course designed for senior students to explore relevant learning work experiences related to their career goals.
Students will apply for the Work-Based Learning Jumpstart course during the course selection process in their junior year. Students must complete the application that outlines a connection to their career goals and have administrative and guidance counselor approval.
Expectations:
Students must be in good academic, attendance, and behavioral standing and be on track to meet all Penn Manor High School and Pennsylvania State graduation requirements.
Students must be employed by a legitimate business and work a minimum of 10-40 hours per week.
Students must demonstrate career goals related directly to entering the workforce upon graduation.
The student’s employer must complete the Employer Acknowledgement Permission Form.
Employers must complete the required clearances for students working under the age of 18.
An individualized academic plan will be created for each student that outlines the expectations for the student.
Students will complete an initial contract and work arrangements prior to the start of the semester, complete weekly timesheets, journal entries, evaluations, and attend scheduled meetings.
Students will complete the required core credits that are needed to graduate. The remaining portion of the student’s schedule will allow the student to leave the school campus to work at a job and earn an hourly wage. The Work-Based Learning coordinator will visit students at their job site, create a training agreement & training plan, communicate with the student’s employer on a regular basis, and assess students at their job and on classroom assignments.
The Work-Based Learning Career Jumpstart course was created for students who do not intend to pursue post-secondary education.
