We have been very busy in Year 2 learning about the Great Fire of London. Our class novel has been Toby and the Great Fire of London and we all wrote a diary entry as Toby, describing his thoughts and feelings during the fire. We also wrote some brilliant Haiku poems based on our senses and imagining what it was like during the fire.
We have had a focus on Geography and History so far, focusing on London as it is today and how it was in the past. We have also compared the differences and similarities between how fires were fought in 1666 and how they are fought today.
All this is helping us with our next focus piece of writing, which will be an information text about the Great Fire of London.
In PE we have been practising our jumping and dodging skills and in Maths we have moved on from fractions to learning about time and recognising o’clock, half past, quarter to and quarter past.
Our DT lessons are going to be fun this Module, as we have learned about wheels and how they attach to vehicles and then we will be designing and making our own fire engines using junk modelling resources. (If anyone has any bits in the recycling at home that may be helpful for our vehicle making, please send them in!)
Here you can see the work from our Wow Writers this week!
Every week we will showcase the winners of our weekly writing certificate so you can see the piece of writing they won their award for.

Water Safety
Splashing around in the water is the best part of warm weather, but being a Water Safety Superhero means knowing how to have fun while staying out of danger. The most important rule is to never go near the water alone. Whether you are at the beach, a pool, or even a small pond, always make sure you have a grown-up with you who is keeping a close watch.
Before you jump in, take a moment to look around for safety signs or flags. These are like "road signs" for the water that tell you where it is safe to swim and where the water might be too deep or moving too fast. It is also important to remember that the ground near water is very slippery, so keep your "land legs" slow and steady - walking is much safer than running!
If you ever find yourself feeling tired or scared while swimming, remember to Float to Live. Instead of splashing and getting tired, lean back like a starfish, spread your arms and legs, and keep your ears in the water. By staying calm and floating on your back, you can save your energy until a grown-up can help you. Let’s work together to make sure every trip to the water is a safe and happy one!
A fantastic and reliable resource is the Royal Life Saving Society (RLSS UK). They offer a wealth of easy-to-follow advice, free toolkits, and fun activities specifically designed to help families stay safe around the water.
