LAPEs Got Talent
We have such a range of talents here within our children and it is wonderful that they have an opportunity to showcase these to the rest of the school.
We had singers, dancers, gymnasts, instrument playing, impersonations and children showing off a range of skills. Everyone enjoyed the show and all the children were confident in their performances, which was wonderful to see. Each class will now vote for their top three performers in the show and we will be able to annouce the winners after the half term.
Our enrichment clubs have been buzzing with energy, imagination and growing confidence this term, and it has been a joy to see children thriving across such a wide range of activities.
Cooking Club has been a particular highlight, with our young chefs designing and making their own biscuits, experimenting with colourful icings and decorations to create some truly imaginative treats. They also tried their hand at making mini pizzas using wraps, tomato purée and cheese, before baking them in the oven. Their creativity and increasing independence in the kitchen have been fantastic to watch.
Over in Film Club, children explored a variety of films from different genres and styles. They enjoyed lively discussions about their favourite scenes, characters and moments, and it was wonderful to see them growing in confidence as they shared opinions and made thoughtful connections between the films they watched.
Drawing Club offered a calm and reflective space each week. Children took part in mindfulness drawing, focusing on slow, intentional mark‑making and creative patterns. This gentle approach gave them the chance to relax, express themselves and enjoy the process of drawing without pressure. Their focus and contentment were lovely to see.
Our Band Club brought plenty of musical excitement. Children took part in singing a wide range of songs, following a weekly routine of vocal warm‑ups, focused listening and group singing. Many were brave enough to try solos or duets, while others enjoyed being part of the ensemble. Some even added instruments into the mix, bringing extra creativity and energy to the sessions. Their teamwork and enthusiasm shone through every week.
In TTRS Club, children worked hard to boost their engagement with the platform and build the confidence they need for their upcoming multiplication check. Through games, challenges and targeted practice, they strengthened their fluency and accuracy while developing a real sense of self‑belief. Their determination has been brilliant.
Alongside these clubs, our KS1 children enjoyed developing their coordination and agility in Multi‑Skills, while KS2 pupils took part in Football and Gymnastics, building teamwork, resilience and physical confidence across a range of sporting activities.
It has been a wonderful term across all clubs, and we are incredibly proud of the children’s effort, creativity and commitment.
Our Year 1 and Year 2 students have been working with our favourite floor robots: the Bee-Bots. These lessons are the perfect introduction to the world of algorithms and programming.
Designing Algorithms: Students are learning to plan a path for their robot to reach a specific target, such as a flower or a house on a map.
Predicting & Communicating: Before pressing a button, children work as Communicators, "reading" a sequence of commands to predict where the robot will land.
Debugging: As Risk-Takers, they’ve learned that it’s okay if the robot goes the wrong way! They simply "debug" their code by finding the error and fixing it.
Meanwhile, our older students in KS2 have been levelling up their skills by moving from physical robots to on-screen block coding in Scratch. This platform allows them to create their own interactive stories, games, and animations.
Logic and Complexity: Students are moving beyond simple movements to use loops (repeating actions) and conditionals (if/then statements).
Thinkers at Work: This requires them to be true Thinkers, as they must anticipate how a user will interact with their program and write the code to respond to those actions.
Collaborative Creators: We’ve been incredibly impressed with how students have acted as Knowledgeable peers, helping one another troubleshoot complex "bugs" in their game designs.
Whether it’s a Year 1 student guiding a Bee-Bot or a Year 6 student building a platform game, the core skills remain the same. Our students are being:
Reflective: Looking at their code and asking, "How could I make this more efficient?"
Inquirers: Asking "What happens if I change this variable?" and testing the results.
To celebrate LGBTQ+ History month, Medway Public Health have worked with Ian Timbrell from Not Just Flags and Rainbows to create a parent and carer video on ‘Creating Inclusive Homes for LGBTQ+ Children and Young People.’
