Principal's Message
What a wonderful day! A quick message from me as we are still in the swing of Gala Day as I write this, but I just wanted to say it has been wonderful to see so many of our friends, families and community members in school today. Thankfully the weather decided to treat us well. It is always a highlight of the year, and even with the added complication of the roadworks at the front of school (thank you to everyone for taking these in their stride; we know it is not making anyone's life easier, but I think the work is going to look incredible once it's finished), it has once again been a brilliant day.
A reminder - your views of our school are important to us. The following link will take you to our annual survey for parent feedback - please take a few minutes to complete this with your child over the half term to help recognise what we do well, and what we can do even better. https://forms.gle/7y9HJDjk7vXXPSrZ8
School is now closed for one week. Have a wonderful half term - school reopens to all children on Monday 1st June.
Kind regards,
S Thompson
Principal

Unfortunately due to changes in government funding, Lancashire County Council are no longer issuing supermarket vouchers to families who received free school meals to cover the cost of the food during the school holidays. Here is some more information from Pendle Borough Council to support families that may be struggling with food.
While school is closed, help can also be found at Brierfield Family Hub on Tunstall Square.
Many children enjoy watching videos, but please remember that TikTok is for ages 13 and older. For children in primary school, the app can show videos that are not suitable for their age and understanding. It can also be difficult to keep their personal information private.
To keep your children safe, we recommend:
Not allowing them to set up their own profiles on Tik Tok or post anything to the platform using others' profiles.
Ensuring you are closely monitoring them if they are watching videos on devices belonging to family members.
Checking their devices regularly.
Talking to them about what they see online.
If you have older children who are using Tik Tok, this short video explains how to set up parental controls for Tik Tok.
Do you know what your child is seeing online? To help families navigate the digital world, the government has created a new online safety hub: https://kidsonlinesafety.campaign.gov.uk/.
The site provides easy-to-follow guides on:
Setting up parental controls.
Identifying "red flags" in apps and games.
Having open conversations about internet use. Check it out to help ensure your child’s online experience stays positive and safe.
At Pendle Primary Academy, the safety and privacy of our children, families and staff are our top priority. We want to ensure that our school remains a secure environment where everyone feels comfortable and safe.
To support this, we would like to remind all parents and family members that filming or video recording on school grounds is strictly prohibited unless you are at a school event, such as the nativity play or sports day. In any case where filming is permitted on school grounds such videos must not be shared on social media by parents / carers under any circumstances.
Privacy Rights: Not all families have consented to their child’s image being captured or shared and this can sometimes be due to a safeguarding concerns.
Focus on Learning: Keeping devices away helps maintain a focused, distraction-free environment for our children. The start and end of the school day should be a time when parents / carers are focused on greeting their children and engaging fully with them.
We live in a digital age where it’s easy to "hit record," but we ask that you help us respect the digital boundaries of our school community.
Thank you for your co-operation in keeping Pendle Primary Academy a safe space for everyone!
Our attendance this week has been 95.62%, and our attendance for this year is 93.75% Our attendance target for every child is 96%.
Children in Years 1 to 6 who are in school on time every day in a week will be given 5 dojos to celebrate and recognise their attendance. We are also recognising the best class each week with an in-school Shine Charter competition, where classes can win £50 to spend on resources once they have been the highest-attending class 5 times. Please support the school by ensuring that you child is here every day, ready to learn.
Please can we remind all parents that, if your child is going to be absent from school, it is important that you call school on 01282 615927 to inform the office of the absence. Please do not email the reasons for absence, as the office may not see this email, and we may need to therefore do a home visit to check on your child.
If school conducts home visits and finds that your child is not at home (if they are too ill to be in school, we would expect them to be at home with a parent), the absence may be marked as unauthorised.
As a reminder, school does not authorise extended absence in term time. Taking your child out of school in term time may lead to legal action being taken against you by Lancashire County Council.

Pendle Primary Academy are proud to be a Voice 21 Oracy Centre of Excellence. As a school, we encourage children to have conversations about many subjects, both in class and with friends. The support of the children's families in practising those conversation skills would help inspire the children to freely share their views.
This term we have more questions which encourage deeper thinking and philosophical conversations.
On Saturday 16th May, school staff, their families and the family of one of our Year 1 children completed 6 laps of Pendle Hill to raise money for charity. If you would like to show your support and are able to spare a few pounds, donations can be made here: https://gofund.me/8c544a61e
Nevaeh-Leigh is a Year 1 Pupil who has been re-diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia and is currently receiving treatment at Royal Manchester Children's Hospital, where she will be until at least 2027. Her older brother also attends our school. Staff at school decided to do six consecutive laps of Pendle Hill on Saturday 16th May to celebrate Nevaeh’s 6th Birthday. Donations will support Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital and fund a small getaway for the family. After the intensity and isolation of hospital treatment, this will allow them the space to reconnect and simply be together again. Some of the money raised will also help her family with expenses when visiting Nevaeh-Leigh at the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital.

The PPA Stars mini-site is the place for your children to find links to homework, class blogs and help them to be inspired and excellent in their learning, even when they're not at school! The mini-site is updated each half term with content which is linked to what your child is currently learning in school. Keep an eye out for next half term's content appearing soon.
