Selinda Medrano is a high school Peer Leader at June Jordan School for Equity. She has served as part of the Young People's Project--peers teaching peers in algebra, a critical gatekeeper to academic success--and is currently a leader in Peer Resources' Youth Council, a city-wide leadership group representing the broad range of Peer Resources sites.

"I am a first generation Latina born and raised in San Francisco. I attend June Jordan School for Equity and I am in my Junior year. Something extremely important to me is being a First Generation U.S. Citizen. Both my parents migrated at young ages from El Salvador, and I was raised and still live in this small community called ‘Excelsior’. My personal interests are Social Justice, Teaching, Medicine, and helping others. I fell in love with helping others in any way possible because I think that that’s the only way to make a difference. I truly believe that Peer Resources has changed and helped me to become who I am today. I’ve been a part of Peer Resources for 4 years now I had no idea about the organization until my older sister Luz introduced me to it and told me that I would gain a lot from being a part of the class. I never knew that they would open my eyes to the biggest things I wouldn‘t have ever known. I feel like Peer Resources has helped me become who I am today and I never thought that the organization would take me so far in the academic life. I have worked on projects dealing with deep issues that have affected my community and school such as Self-Love, Depression, Anxiety, and Stress. I want to make a difference for others, an actual change that will make a deep impact for so many others and to know that all my struggles would be worth it because I know that I made someone else’s life easier. I know that I am just a young teenager but I know that with my voice and knowledge right now I’m setting a pathway to a change."
