Rexy Amaral

Peer Leader, Mission High School

"Rexy has a history of working towards social justice and equity that can be traced back to her time as an 8th grader and participating in an internship at LYRIC. Since her days as a GSA president, Peers student and student activist at Mission, Rexy is now continuing to add to her legacy--she recently started her own week-long institute focused on drag as a form of activism during the annual SF Pride month (aptly named, "Dragtivism") and was crowned "Princess Royal" for the SF Ducal Court where she raises money for local organizations supporting our most marginalized LGBTQ communities (homeless/marginally housed, HIV+, youth) and scholarships for LGBTQ students.

"Rexy's impact on the LGBTQ youth community is wide and is immeasurable. Rexy has created her own "drag house" which provides an opportunity for young people to connect with Rexy directly through a mentoring relationship. Her skills and strengths also earned her a job with the national organization, GSA Network. Through her role she has been able to broaden her reach to train new youth leaders in SF and across Northern California."
