How to Register for a Wilderness Escape Program  

Important Times & Meeting Places

Departure: Students are to meet in the Vacant Paddock adjacent to the main entrance kiss and drop off Surrey Farm Drive on Tuesday 4th August at 7:30am ready for an 8am departure. 

Please see the Drop off Location Map where students will gather at the green X.

Return: Students will return to the College by 3:00pm on Friday 7th August.

Year 9 Camp Solo Night Information 

As a part of the Year 9 Outdoor Education experience, students will be engaging in a 'Solo Night'. Students will camp on their own for one evening. They will be monitored at regular intervals by staff. During this experience, students will be engaging in structured activities relating to their identity, wellbeing and future aspirations.

Meal Planning Booklet 

Students will need a packed recess and lunch on the first day. 

Students will need to provide the following for the expedition:

• 1 breakfast (Whole fruits, choice of cereal in ziplock bags, 250ml long life milk, muesli bars, etc)

• 1 Lunch (Wraps with Salad, tinned tuna or chicken, cured meats, saladas, corn thins, etc)

• 1 dinner (In pairs, students will organise the meal in the menu planning session prior to camp and the meal will be cooked on a trangia)

• Snacks (no nuts or wrapped lollies)

• Capacity to carry 4 litres of water each

•  1 litre water bottle for activities

• 5 litre water bladder or 5x 1L water bottles for the expedition. 5L Water Bladder Example

All other food is provided.

A student food preparation session will be held prior to camp to support students plan a healthy menu for camp and work with their tent partner to create a shopping list.

Please pack all items into a sports/duffle bag and avoid using large suitcases on wheels. The main bag will be left at base camp when students go on their hiking expedition, where they will pack only what they need into a ruck sack that is supplied.

All specialised camping equipment will be supplied by Wilderness Escape. This includes: rain jackets, tents, sleeping mats, cooking stoves, mountain bikes, helmets, gloves, ruck sacks etc.

Activities  

Program Outline

• Overnight Hiking Expedition –  Students will hike on tracks in the Argadells Homestead property and spend a night at one of the bush campsites on the property.

• Mountain Biking (MTB) – Students will follow the tracks and trails around the Argadells Homestead property.

• Rock Climbing - A chance for students to climb to new heights and test their strength, flexibility and problem solving skills. All while getting the best views of the surrounding landscape.

• Save Your Pilot (SYP) – A base camp challenge, where students must collaborate and problem solve their way through a series of tasks that sees them rescue a 'pilot' from a tree, build a stretcher to carry them to the safety of a shelter constructed by their group.

• Problem Solving (PS) - Students will work together in their groups through a number of problem solving challenges, to get them thinking laterally. 

• Pedare Passage Solo Night -  Students will camp on their own for one evening, spending quiet time in their tent completing a booklet filled with activities relating to their identity, wellbeing and future aspirations.
