We are looking forward to the 2026 Year 5 Outdoor Education Experience at Arura Group Stays, Port Hughes from Monday 30th March to Wednesday 1st April (Term 1, Week 10).
The registration for your child’s participation in the Year 5 Camp needs to be completed by Friday 13th March (Term 1, Week 7).

There will not be a specific Camp Parent Information Session, however classroom teachers will speak about the experience at the Junior School Parent Information Evening on Tuesday 3rd February.
Parents are invited to contact their child's teacher about any group or pastoral questions, and Bronwyn Dutch (Director of Outdoor Education, bdutch@pedarecc.sa.edu.au) if they have any queries about the logistics for the Camp.
**Please note that students will be spending 1 night in a dorm and 1 night in a tent on this camp**
Departure: Students are to leave their luggage (not day pack) from 8:15am on Monday 30th March, with a staff member on the Banksia Deck facing the Jackson Oval. Students should then walk to the Year 5 classrooms to meet their teacher and stay there until departure time, 9.00am.
Return: Students will return to the College on Wednesday 1st April by 3:00pm.
Please see information below regarding the expectations for medication, both prescription and non-prescription, required by students on camp:
All daily medication needs to be provided to the College Nurse in a Medication Blister Pack no later than 7 days prior to camp departure.
Any medication that a Pharmacist will not pack in a Blister Pack due to storage requirements will require the original packaging and a pharmacy label (including over-the-counter medication).
Please ensure any medication that your child would usually have in the Health Centre during the day while at school, is up to date and that the relevant Care Plans/Medication Agreement forms have been provided.
The Camp Medication Agreement Form must be completed for all medications taken in a 24 hour period.
These medications will be administered by a College nurse who will be present on camp for the entire time.
Paracetamol, Ibuprofen and Antihistamine will be supplied by the College for use on the camp. Please ensure that you have consented to these medications on Consent2Go.
Please do not pack the above medications in your child’s bag. Any medication that is found in your child’s bag that has not been disclosed to the College will be confiscated.
Any S8 Medications (controlled medications such as Ritalin etc), will need a doctor to complete and sign the form.
Any Diabetic students who are attending and will be located more than 30 minutes from Medical assistance will need to have a Medication Agreement and Glucagon sent to camp as well as their Diabetes Action Plan and Hypo Kit.

Students will need to provide the following food:
Packed recess and lunch for the first day.
Snacks (no nuts or wrapped lollies)
1 litre water bottle for activities
All other food is provided.

Please pack all items into a sports/duffle bag and avoid using large suitcases on wheels.
All specialised camping equipment will be supplied by Wilderness Escape, this includes but is not limited to rain jackets, tents, sleeping mats, cooking stoves, etc.
Beach Walk and Games – Explore the beach and enjoy the scenery. Find shells, play some beach cricket or soccer with your classmates.
Splash Town (Moonta) – The water park features racer slides, kids slide, large tipping bucket and water mushrooms.
Boomerang Making – An activity which gives students creative freedom by painting a boomerang, then try to make it return to yourself when throwing it.
Snorkel Skills – Learn the basics of snorkelling, becoming comfortable with a snorkel and mask and see a whole different world under the water.
Fishing – Learn to cast a rod and try your luck at catching some fish or squid off the jetty.
Problem Solving – Work with classmates to complete challenges, learning group skills like communication, trust and cooperation.
Moonta Mines Train and Museum Tour - students ride the train through the Moonta Mines State Heritage Area, with commentary from the train driver about some of the historic landmarks of the former mining operations. Trangia Cooking – Students will experience cooking their own meals on one night of the camp on a trangia stove (food and stoves provided).
Tent Camping – Students will camp out in a tent on the grounds of the Arura Stays Accommodation Centre on the night that they cook for themselves. The other night will be in dorm accommodation.
As per the College Fee Schedule, all year level Outdoor Education experiences are designed as part of an holistic education program, providing students with further opportunities to develop their learning and social skills.
These opportunities aim to develop deeper learning, confidence, resilience, independence, responsibility and a sense of community within the context of the College values.
Outdoor Education experiences are an integral part of the curriculum and all students are expected to attend.
