October is National Bullying Prevention Month

"Tyrone the Horrible" by Hans Wilhelm

A little dinosaur named Boland tries several ways of dealing with the biggest bully in the swamp forest, until finally hitting on a successful tactic.

Wilhelm uses dinosaurs to develop his very modern tale about a young dinosaur named Boland who finally outsmarts the bully that had terrorized the swamp. Boland seems to be the special target of Tyrone the Horrible; day after day, he is victimized. He tries to avoid trouble, tries pleasing Tyrone, tries fighting back, but nothing works.

As a story of a bully who is about to meet his match, this one will have joyful appeal for kids of all ages.

Teachers of the Month

Third grade teacher Mrs. Capati and first grade teacher Mrs. Edwards were selected by their colleagues as teachers of the month for the month of October.

Tiffany Capati

3rd Grade

Mrs. Capati has been teaching for 17 years. We are grateful to have her as part of our third grade math team. Her favorite part about teaching is watching students realize that they are as amazing as she thinks they are!

Andee Edwards

1st Grade

Mrs. Edwards has taught for 32 years and she specializes in reading instruction. Her passion is watching children get excited about learning, and their overall happiness! She enjoys watching students SOAR.

Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports

PBIS is a school-wide system of support that includes proactive strategies for defining, teaching, and supporting appropriate student behaviors to create positive school environments. We use our PBIS Matrix with students to clearly define behaviors by location. Ask your child to explain what it means to 1) Be Respectful, 2) Be Responsible, and 3) Be Safe at school and on the bus.

Use this PBIS Matrix to help guide the discussion on school expectations by location.

Be Respectful

Use kind words and actions; be thoughtful and considerate.

Be Responsible

Know the rules and understand your responsibility at school.

Be Safe

Choose actions that are safe and do not hurt yourself or others.

Our teachers use ClassDojo! ClassDojo is a classroom communication app used to share reports between parents and teachers. Teachers track student behavior and upload photos or videos. The game-style system teaches developmental skills through real-time feedback.

Download the app today and join your child's class!

If you have not already done so, please ask your child's teacher how you can engage with the class using ClassDojo.

Food Service

We provide tasty, healthy breakfasts and lunches in our cafeteria that complement our school system's wellness policy, as well as state and federal standards. We have cut back on frying, fats, sodium, and sugars, and we have increased our fresh produce, whole grains, and lower-calorie snacks.

Here are the menu choices for the month of October:

Students are reading an informational passage about flags. They are learning to highlight important information, and are practicing reading fluency (the ability to read a text accurately, quickly, and with expression).

If you have new contact information, please be sure to update your child's teacher and the main office. Thank you!
