My name is Elizabeth Steele and I am very excited to be teaching 8th grade and 10th grade health education for the Pecatonica School District.
I received my undergraduate degree in K-12 physical education and health from Carroll College (now Carroll University) in Waukesha, WI .
I have had the opportunity to teach K-12 physical education and health in Waukesha, WI, Argyle, WI, Hollandale, WI and Blanchardville, WI. I am married and have one son.
Kids in the 21st century are bombarded with a multitude of challenging issues such as suicide, obesity, depression, teen pregnancy and lifestyle related diseases. All of these concerns can have a direct impact on the academic performance and success for our children. As an educator, I have a desire to empower students with the knowledge and skills they need for a better quality of life. My brain is on constant look out for anything that will inspire, motivate and educate others to unfold the best person they can be.
What do I want to accomplish as a teacher? I want to make a positive difference in the lives of children…one child at a time.
The health curriculum is designed to help students become sensitive, healthy individuals who take an active roll in protecting, maintaining, and improving their health. Students study wellness, skills for healthy living, mental and emotional health, healthy relationships, conflict resolution/violence prevention, nutrition, alcohol, tobacco and other drugs, communicable and noncommunicable diseases, and human growth and development .
One very helpful website I use in class is TeensHealth.org http://teenshealth.org/en/teens/ I use it with the students as well as on my own as parent. There is a parent tab that gives lots of information on various topics and advice on how to tackle those hard to talk about topics. Please check it out!!! There is so much useful information all just one click.
