Thank you to everyone who supported our PSA Summer Fayre on Saturday - it was a really successful event and the first one for our new committee.
Today's newsletter has information about the upcoming hot weather and our summer reading challenges - do read on!
Can I please remind everyone that all fidgets and squishy toys are left at home. These are extremely distracting and children are falling out over them, wasting a lot of valuable learning time as teachers try to sort this out. Children who require a fidget toy have one issued to them by school.
Summer Reading Challenge
We are thrilled to launch this year’s summer reading challenge, which is split into two exciting parts to keep your child engaged over the holidays.
Part 1 is the A-Z Challenge, where students can complete various reading activities to earn a Bronze, Silver, or Gold badge and certificate.
Part 2 focuses on Library Visits; our school library will be open on 21st July, 28th July, and 4th August between 10:00 am and 11:30 am for children to swap books and get their passports stamped (though stamps from any library you visit this summer count too!).
To claim their rewards, please help your child collect evidence of their reading—such as photos, notes, or signed passports—and ensure they hand everything in to Miss Skipp by 14th September 2026. Winners will be celebrated in the Achievers Assembly the following week, with badges and certificates awarded shortly after.
To double the fun, the children also had an assembly today introducing the local public library summer reading challenge hosted by the Midsomer Norton, Radstock, and Peasedown libraries! This year's exciting theme is 'Read to the Beat', and children can absolutely take part in this challenge alongside our school one. It is completely free to sign up, so please visit your local library to find out more and get involved. Visit their website to find out more: https://summerreadingchallenge.org.uk/
Happy Reading!

Year 4 Art Exhibition - Friday 10th July
Reminder: Families of Year 4 children are invited to the hall on Friday after school to sample their children’s baking and enjoy their recent creations in Art lessons. We look forward to seeing you all there!
Hot Weather
Hot weather - a reminder
We are aware that we will be having anther spell of hot weather towards the end of this week. Children can wear their school PE kits from Wednesday onwards if they wish. During this time we intend to stay open unless otherwise directed. We will ensure that we are not in direct sunlight in the midday sun and refill water bottles regularly. You may find that your child has spent some of the day in a different space to usual towards the end of the week as we utilise our air conditioned classrooms.
The following reminders still apply:
Several children arrived at school last week without a hat, without a water bottle and wearing unsuitable footwear.
Footwear: Children must wear sensible shoes every day; school shoes on a non-PE day and trainers on a PE day. For safety reasons, we strongly advise against open-toe sandals. NO crocs, sliders or flip flops on any day please.
Sun Protection: Please ensure your child arrives at school with sun cream already applied. They should also bring a sun hat every day.
Hydration: Children should bring a refillable water bottle every day. We will ensure this is refilled frequently throughout the day.
We ask for your full support in these matters as this enables us to keep children safe in the summer sun.

Home Learning
The button below will take you to this week's home learning for every year group. Home learning is designed to enable children to practice skills they will need in school and so it is really important that they spend some time over the week on this home learning.

Starting Reception - Stay and Plays
It was lovely to welcome all of the children who are starting Reception with us in September during their stay and play sessions. These were a valuable opportunity for the Reception team to begin those important positive relationships with parents and their children. The smaller groups enabled us to spend more time with each family in a friendly and relaxed setting.
We were very impressed with the children’s resilience as they happily came into class and confidently explored their new learning environment. All of the children enjoyed playing indoors and outdoors with the activities on offer. They also sat on the carpet for singing, participated in a small group adult-led activity and made new friends. The children confidently talked to the adults about themselves and their families then drew a picture of their family ready to be displayed in September.
Home Visits and Settling in Sessions
We are very excited about September especially as the children did so well with us this week. Our settling in sessions are as follows:
Nursery Fundraiser
Evo Sports
With the recent intensity with the hot weather over the last few weeks the children had to participate in some slightly cooler indoor activities.
We did Y1 and 2 parachute games and Y6 played indoor Benchball
When the weather got slightly cooler we were able to go outside and play cricket with Year 4 and Year 2 were able to do their team warm ups and fitness activities.
Y6 Football Match
Last Monday the Y6 boys’ football team played St.Vigors away at Chilcompton Sports Ground.
A fantastic first half by the team put them 3-0 up at half time. However, some strong attacking by the away side saw them draw level 3-3 in the second half. Some incredible goal keeping from Carney P kept them from scoring again before Alfie E took an amazing free kick from the half way line which rattled the bar before AJ W smashed in the rebound.
A fantastic 4-3 win for the lads and if they win their next two games next week they will win the MSN School Sports league. Amazing effort team PSJ! ⚽️
PSA Updates
Thank you everyone who attended our Summer Fayre on Saturday. The weather shone brightly for us and it was wonderful to see so many of our families. We raised £1700 for the school. Watch this space to see how this will be spent over the coming year.
Our next event will be the colour run on Wednesday 15th July. We look forward to seeing you there.
The Colour Run will take place on Wednesday 15th July.
1:00–2:00pm
KS1, Reception and Nursery: Colour Run on the big school field (organised by the PSA). Parents are welcome to attend.
KS2: Water play on the school grounds with school staff. Parents are not invited to the water play.
2:00–3:00pm
KS2: Colour Run on the big school field (organised by the PSA). Parents are welcome to attend.
KS1, Reception and Nursery: Water play on the school grounds with school staff. Parents are not invited to the water play.
The Colour Run is a fun, non-competitive event. Children can run, jog or walk around a loop of the school field as many times as they would like during their session.
The course includes a number of fun obstacles, including:
Climbing over straw bales
Hopping through tyres
Weaving through cones
Running through slalom poles
Crawling under netting
There is no pressure to complete every obstacle. A Fast Track route will be available so children can bypass any obstacle they do not wish to complete or are unable to complete.
Children are welcome to:
Run as many laps as they wish
Walk whenever they choose
Stop for a rest whenever needed
This is about having fun rather than racing.
At each obstacle there will be PSA volunteers and school staff gently throwing coloured powder onto participants.
The powder will only be thrown below shoulder height. No powder should be intentionally thrown at children's faces.
Parents who purchase colour powder may also stand alongside designated running sections of the course to throw powder at their own child only, ensuring it is thrown below shoulder height.
Parents can purchase colour powder for £1 per pot.
Parents are welcome to stand along the designated running sections of the course and throw powder at their own child only.
For everyone's safety, please:
Throw powder below shoulder height.
Do not throw powder directly at faces.
Follow instructions from PSA volunteers and school staff.
The colour powder has been supplied by Ministry of Colours and is designed specifically for Colour Run events. It is the safest available on the UK market, as we have EN71 certification.
The powder is:
Non-toxic
Biodegradable
Made primarily from food-grade corn starch
Coloured using natural vegetable, cosmetic or food-grade dyes
If you would like further information about the powder, including the manufacturer's guidance and safety information, please refer to the Ministry of Colours FAQs on their website.
The colour powder is designed to wash out of most fabrics. However, because children will also be taking part in water play on the same day, their clothing is likely to be damp when they complete the Colour Run. Damp fabric absorbs colour more readily than dry fabric, so staining is more likely than at a typical Colour Run.
For this reason, we strongly recommend that children wear old clothes and trainers that you do not mind getting stained. A white T-shirt is encouraged as it shows the colours brilliantly, but please only send one that you are happy may not return to its original colour.
After the event, allow clothing to dry completely before shaking off as much loose powder as possible. Wash garments according to the care label. While the powder washes out of most clothing, some fabrics may retain colour or require more than one wash, and we cannot guarantee that all stains will be removed.
The children can wear these clothes to school that day.
Brush your hair to remove excess powder
Rinse your hair with cool water
Wash using a good quality shampoo
Rinse and repeat if required
Condition and follow your normal hair care steps
Your hair should now be free of colour powder
You can also use a conditioner/oil before the event. Apply liberally to your hair and leave in for the event. This helps create a barrier between the colour powder and your hair. Alternatively, wear a hat, scarf or even a shower cap to protect your hair. We think the wackier the better!!
Please:
Read the participation waiver carefully and ensure you are happy for your child to take part.
Sponsor your child using either:
the paper sponsorship form sent home; or
the QR code to donate through SuperKind.
Please let your child's class teacher know as soon as possible.
If only a small number of children choose not to participate, they may be able to help or join in with the other Key Stage's water play session. If a larger number of children do not take part, a supervised quiet area under a gazebo will be available on the school field where children can relax, watch the event and complete colouring activities.
As children will already be taking part in the water play sessions, they should arrive at school wearing their own old clothes that they are happy to get wet and colourful.
We would love children to wear a white T-shirt if possible, as this shows the colours most effectively.
Children must wear protective eyewear, such as:
Goggles
Safety glasses
Sunglasses
The PSA will have a small number of spare pairs available, but not enough for every participant.
Many children with asthma are able to take part in Colour Runs and enjoy the event. If your child has asthma or another respiratory condition, we encourage you to consider their individual needs and whether they would be comfortable participating.
If your child uses an inhaler, please ensure it is in school and readily available on the day. The class teacher will take it over to the school field and there will be a first aider available.
We have put a number of measures in place to help children take part in a way that suits them. Children can:
Use the Fast Track to bypass obstacles and colour stations if they wish.
Walk instead of run.
Take as many breaks as they need.
Complete as many or as few laps as they feel comfortable doing.
Avoid areas where the powder is more concentrated.
Our aim is for every child to enjoy the event in a way that feels right for them. If you have any questions or would like to discuss your child's individual needs or any reasonable adjustments that may help them participate, please speak to the school before the event—we will be happy to help.
If you have any questions before the event, please contact the school office or the PSA.
We are looking forward to a fun, colourful afternoon and thank you for your support!
