Message from Mrs Noall

Whilst we navigate this extremely hot weather, please remind your child to wear sun cream, to wear a sun hat and to bring a refillable water bottle to school. We anticipate being open Tuesday and Friday, but please continue to monitor your emails for any updates throughout the week.

Thank you to everyone for your generous donations for the Summer Fayre tombola. Remember to buy your tokens so that we can be cashless on the day. More information about how to do this further down in the newsletter, along with information about a PSA Colour Run in July.

News and Events

Have fun Year 6!

Our Year 6 children are currently at the PGL in Osmington Bay for three days of adventure; challenging themselves to stay away from home and to try things outside of their comfort zone, creating life-long memories along the way. We are looking forward to hearing all about it when they return.

Cookery Corner has been upgraded!

Work has finished on Cookery Corner which has been completely remodelled to bring it up-to-date, ensure it is fully accessible and allow more children to cook at any one time. The project was part-funded by our wonderful PSA; we are very grateful! Watch this space as we now start to use it!

Reminders

Hot weather; a reminder

• Uniform: Children may choose to wear their school PE kit this week if they find it more comfortable than their standard summer uniform.

• Footwear: Children must still wear sensible shoes. For safety reasons, we strongly advise against open-toe sandals. NO crocs or flip flops please.

• Sun Protection: Please ensure your child arrives at school with sun cream already applied. They should also bring a sun hat and a refillable water bottle.

Home Learning

The button below will take you to this week's home learning for every year group. Home learning is designed to enable children to practice skills they will need in school and so it is really important that they spend some time over the week on this home learning. 

SEND Updates

Updated SEND Support Plans and SEND Passports will be emailed home at the end of this week and will include details about how to arrange to speak to your child's class teacher about this if you would like to do so.

Starting Reception - The Benefits of a Home Visit

If your child came to our school nursery they would have had a home visit when they started with us. They do not need a home visit in September as we meet them regularly in nursery. If your child is new to the school you have booked a home visit for September. 

Why do we do a home visit?

Home visits can help build relationships with families. Parents and carers can share their background and culture and give teachers specific information so we can understand your child's interests, strengths and areas for development. Home visits provide one-to-one time with your child’s teacher in the relaxed environment of your home.

Home visits are also an important opportunity for us as adults to get to know your child as they will be in our care. It provides us with the opportunity to see children in their own environment where they feel more confident. We can begin forming a positive relationship with your child and become a familiar face for when they start school. Children love seeing their teacher in their home and often start conversations with us months later in school such as “Do you remember when you came to my house? We played with my toys”. 

What happens on a home visit?

Your child’s teacher will come with another adult from Reception and stay for approximately 10 minutes. We are not there to inspect your home or make judgments about it so please do not spend hours cleaning before we come. We have all had children and know how busy a home with young children can be.

Your child’s teacher will chat to you about your child and answer any questions you may have. This is a relaxed conversation and an opportunity for us to get to know each other. The other adult will play with your child, talk to them and answer any questions that they may have. We will collect any admission forms you may not have handed to the school office and check the starting session that you have booked for your child. 

We do not need any tea, coffee or biscuits as we are not allowed to accept them. We love animals, cats or dogs so please do not feel that you have to shut them away. When we return to school we meet as a team and relay all the exciting things that we have learnt about your child. This is to ensure that every adult in Reception knows about your child. If you are unsure when your home visit is please contact the school office as they do have a list.

Nursery Fundraiser

At Peasedown St John School, we believe that outdoor play is a vital part of early childhood development, sparking imagination, building confidence, and promoting physical well-being.

Our current nursery outdoor space is having a complete transformation over the summer to match the incredible energy and creativity of our youngest learners.

We are fundraising to buy safe, engaging, and interactive equipment to fill this revamped area —such as sensory mud kitchens, sand pits, and exciting climbing areas. This dedicated space will allow our nursery children to explore, learn, and grow through hands-on outdoor play for years to come.

Every penny raised from our upcoming events goes directly toward giving our children the bright, welcoming, and active environment they truly deserve.
