End of term for pupils
Well done to our Year 4 pupils who camped out over night at school last week; we were lucky enough with the weather to be able to enjoy all the activities! Good luck to our Year 6 pupils who head off to Osmington Bay for their residential on Sunday afternoon next week.
There is never a dull moment here in school; just this afternoon, in and around school, we had Year 2 May Pole dancing, Year 4 doing PE, Year 6 rehearsing their play, Year 3 making DT models outside, nursery enjoying forest school and Reception were on a trip to Chew Valley!
A huge thank you to our staff who help to organise and run these amazing and enriching experiences.

We are now in a position to share our staffing updates for next year.

Year 6 Violet (current Sapphire): Mrs Monika Rich
Children currently in Year 3 and Year 4 will be shuffled up ahead of moving to their new classes in September. Parents will be emailed the details of their child's new class in the morning.
Miss Alice King, whose maternity leave contract is coming to an end, has secured a post at Westfield Primary School. Miss King has been an amazing asset to our team this year and we wish her all the very best in September.
Miss Tara Shaw is leaving us to take on an Assistant Head Teacher post at Huish Primary School. This is a fantastic opportunity and builds on Miss Shaw's work as a Phase Leader at PSJ and the MNSP Assistant Science Lead role. Miss Shaw will be greatly missed at Peasedown and we wish her all the very best of luck in this exciting promotion.
Mrs Esther Taylor, our PPA and Music teacher, will be leaving us this year too. Mrs Taylor has many jobs in addition to working with us three days a week and, most recently, must be congratulated for becoming an examiner for ABRSM. Mrs Taylor needs to find more time in the week and so, sadly, will be leaving PSJ. We will miss her and her musical sparkle and know that she will continue to be brilliant in all her other roles!
We remain committed to musical excellence and so will be welcoming a new PPA teacher with a music specialism. Miss Cara Scott is a recently qualified music teacher currently working in a school in Thornbury. Miss Scott is hoping to not only continue our strong musical offer, but add to it with her own talents and interests which include Kodaly, singing, guitars and rock music!
Transition
Children will start their transition at the end of the day on Wednesday 1st July. They will spend the last 30 minutes of their day in their new classroom and be dismissed from this classroom at the end of the day. This means that they will be able to go straight to their new classroom on arrival on Thursday 2nd July for Shuffle Up Day. Children will spend the whole day with their new teacher in their new classroom on this day.
We know that some children will benefit from an enhanced transition. This will already be in hand, organised by teachers over the remainder of this term.
Transition booklets for parents will be shared nearer the time.
Design Technology - Engineering Competition
Before Christmas, children in Years 2, 4 and 6 took part in a Design Technology competition 'If you were an Engineer, what would you do?' and we recently received the results. All pupils who submitted an entry received a certificate and were graded under the following criteria:
Pass
Merit
Distinction
Shortlisted - These entries were highlighted as the best, most inspired or creative problem-solving ideas, and shortlisted for the next round of judging by VIP guests from the engineering world. Shortlisted entries may be displayed alongside winning and highly commended entries at the exhibition.
Winning/Highly Commended - Shortlisted entries for your region are currently being judged and we will be in touch with an update very soon!
We have now received confirmation that Laily, Buttercup Class, has been judged as Highly Commended for her entry in this year's competition and has been invited to the awards ceremony next month. Well done, Laily; we are very proud of you!
Anyone who was 'shortlisted' may attend the exhibition too where some entries will be on display.
If you would like more information on this, please see Mrs Kershaw
Reminders
Water Bottles
Please ensure your child has a water bottle in school each day. These must be for water and not juice or squash. Children may bring a juice carton as part of their packed lunch if they wish.
Staff Car Park
A gentle reminder that parents and carers should not use the staff car park when dropping their children off to school, whether that is at normal time or for Breakfast Club.

Find out what we have been up to on our class pages and on Face Book.
Home Learning
The button below will take you to this week's home learning for every year group. Home learning is designed to enable children to practice skills they will need in school and so it is really important that they spend some time over the week on this home learning.

Starting Reception - Transition Sessions
Our transition sessions for children starting with us in September are as follows:
If you are unsure of your child’s allocated session times please contact the school office.
What to expect
The stay and play sessions are a valuable opportunity for you and your child to begin a successful transition into school. The Reception team will welcome you into our classrooms to explore the learning environment both indoors and outdoors. There will be a variety of playful activities on offer for you and your child to do together. If you choose to leave your child they will continue to explore indoors and outdoors whilst beginning those positive relationships with the adults in Reception. They will also begin to make new friends with other children.
These sessions are very relaxed and children do not need to wear school uniform or bring anything with them. We do ask parents to bring any completed forms if you have not already handed these into the school office. We enjoy reading every child’s ‘All About Me’ form. The team will also be on hand to chat too during these sessions. Then on Thursday lunchtime we will all come together for a picnic on the field behind the new building. Please remember to bring a packed lunch and a picnic blanket. Once the picnic is over parents will take their child home if they came for the morning session and join us with their child with us if they are staying for the afternoon session.
