Year 6 Leavers Assembly
End of term for pupils
Welcome back to Term 6!
In assembly this morning we reflected on what we might look forward to at summer time - BBQs, beach trips, picnics and ice-creams were popular! However, we also spoke about this being an important term for continued effort and hard work as children complete assessments, finish units of learning and prepare to move up to their next class. I shared a story called 'The Incredible Book Eating Boy' which helped us to understand that there are no shortcuts to excellence. I hope our children will continue to display our CARE values this term and continue to be the very best versions of themselves.
Photos from Sports Day
Emma Wilkinson has had time over the break to edit more photos from sports day and they are really gorgeous! We are aware that parents might like to download and keep images of their own children so this link should allow you to do so. We will also share these on our FB page.
Thank you Emma!

Free School Meals - changes in September 2026
As from September 2026 there will be an additional category to qualify for free school meals. Currently, eligibility is based on households in receipt of Universal Credit with earnings of £7400 or less. The new category will cover pupils in households receiving Universal Credit with no specific earning limit. This is called the Expanded FSM. This will attract free school meals only.
Universal Infant Free School Meals continues for pupils in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 but please still apply if you fall into the above category.
Please see link below to apply
https://beta.bathnes.gov.uk/apply-free-school-meals
Applications are being accepted by Local Authority from 1st June 2026.
How can we look after plants and animals in our local area?
Year 4 thought about this in their writing lessons last term and were then asked to inform others. Children were given the choice of how to present this and Kasen chose to write for our school newsletter.
The Big Future
The Children's Commissioner for England, Dame Rachel de Souza, would like to hear from children in her new survey, The Big Future.
I want to hear from children aged 0–18 from every background, in every part of the country, and your support will help make that possible. I’m asking children about the things they enjoy, the challenges they face, the changes they want to see in their communities, and what they think a good childhood should look like today.
Reminders
School start time is 8:45am
Please be aware that all children arriving after 8:45am will be required to enter the school via the main office. This is to ensure they are registered correctly. Staff are required to shut the gates at 8:45am to support this process.
Children who attend The Star will have their own access arrangements as agreed with The Star staff.
We appreciate your cooperation in this matter.
Parking
If parking on Sunnyside, please do not park across people's driveways. Thank you!
Class News
Find out what we have been up to on our class pages and on Face Book.
Home Learning
The button below will take you to this week's home learning for every year group. Home learning is designed to enable children to practice skills they will need in school and so it is really important that they spend some time over the week on this home learning.
We will email parents where attendance is causing a concern this week.
If you would like support to improve your child's attendance please get in touch with either Mrs Tombs or Mrs Steadman through the school office.

PSJ BITESIZE Term 6 - Transitions
Starting Reception – Healthy Routines
In the last PSJ bitesize we looked at physical development of fine and gross motor skill as well as the busy Reception day. Your child will be tired when they come home from school and especially after a 5 day week. Practicing healthy routines now will help prepare your child to successfully manage the school day.
Healthy Routines
Going to bed around the same time each night, waking up in time to get ready for school
Limiting screen time to the recommended daily amounts
Eating a healthy diet and trying new foods
Brushing their teeth with fluoride toothpaste twice a day (you’ll need to supervise this until they are at least 7)
Guidance from the World Health Organisation for children aged 3-4 years old
Children 3-4 years of age should:
Spend at least 180 minutes in a variety of types of physical activities at any intensity, of which at least 60 minutes is moderate to vigorous intensity physical activity, spread throughout the day; more is better.
Sedentary screen time should be no more than 1 hour; less is better. When sedentary, engaging in reading and storytelling with a caregiver is encouraged.
Have 10–13h of good quality sleep, which may include a nap, with regular sleep and wake-up times.
To grow up healthy, children need to sit less and play more (The WHO, 2025)

Brushing children’s teeth and visiting the dentist
“The most common reason for children being admitted to hospital in England is tooth decay, especially among those aged 5-9.” (Royal College of Surgeons, 2024)
We are part of the NHS initiative called ‘The Big Brush Club’ and as we move into Term 2 we teach children about the importance of cleaning our teeth. You will receive an information pack about our Big Brush Club. It is not a replacement for children brushing their teeth at home. We do a toothbrushing session once a week as a learning opportunity so it is important that children brush their teeth twice a day at home.
PSJ BITESIZE Challenge
Clean your teeth for 2 minutes in the morning
Clean your teeth for 2 minutes at bedtime
PSA Updates
Preparations are now underway for the Summer Fayre. Please support by buying / selling raffle tickets. Also, children who are able to donate a raffle or tombola prize on 19th June can wear non-school uniform on that day.
