On Friday many of us celebrated the 100th birthday of Sir David Attenborough. As one of our school role models, we can learn a great deal about curiosity, aspiration, resilience and empathy from Sir David linked to our natural world. Whilst looking after our own mnatural world, our Eco Team and Pupil Voice Team joined forces last week to paint the bench they had made and to plant trees in our forest school area. Thanks to the parent helpers too!
We still need branches for our dead hedge if you are doing some pruning at home in the coming weeks.
Sports' Day - Friday 22nd May at Peasedown Cricket Club (Reception -Year 6)
Sports Day will follow a similar format to last year. It will be a whole-school event, with children rotating around a carousel of 10 activity stations and competing in their house teams. There will be a rest station after every 3 / 4 activities. Each station will include adaptations to ensure suitability for both Reception/KS1 and KS2.
When the circuit is finished, the children will be able to have an ice cream provided by the PFSA and a picnic with their families/friends. After lunch, there will be an optional KS2 long race and, for the first time at PSJ, we will be holding a fun parents' race.
We will aim to begin Sports Day at 9.45 with the picnic beginning at 12noon. We will then begin the afternoon activities at 1pm with children returning to school once these are complete.
As ever, Sports' day will be weather dependent and we will endeavour to give as much notice as possible for any changes/amendments to the day.
YR to Y6 Breakfast Club - 1st September 2026 onwards
7.30 or 7.45 am starts
Unfortunately, all our costs have risen significantly over the past year and we need to at least cover these costs and/or break even to be able to offer this service. This means that we need to increase the charge for the 7.30 am and the 7.45 am sessions to £4 and £2 respectively from September.
8.00 am starts
There will continue to be no charge as these are currently fully funded through the government's breakfast club scheme.
St Gregory's Open Morning
Reminders
As the weather truns warmer, please remember to send your child to school with a refillable water bottle every day. These should only contian water and not juice.
Thank you

Home Learning
The button below will take you to this week's home learning for every year group. Home learning is designed to enable children to practice skills they will need in school and so it is really important that they spend some time over the week on this home learning.

PSJ BITESIZE Term 5 - Transitions
Starting Reception – Building relationships and communicating
At school your child will be meeting lots of new people and make new friendships. Some things to help them get ready include:
Being with others
Sharing and taking turns with toys.
Talk about how they are feeling and why?
Begin to recognise what others are feeling, e.g. understanding if a friend is sad
Set boundaries for themselves and others (e.g. knowing how to say ‘no’)
Communication and language
Singing along with songs and nursery rhymes.
Talking happily to others about activities, experiences and the world around them.
Showing they need help by speaking clearly (in basic English or sign language).
Recognising the pattern of their name (so they can find it on their coat peg or jacket).
Listening and engaging
Paying attention for short periods of time.
Listening to and following simple instructions.
Carrying on with a task even when it’s difficult and bouncing back if things go wrong.
How this supports your child in the classroom
Being with others
When your child starts in Reception they will meet a lot of new children and adults. They may have already formed friendships with other children in nursery or other childcare settings. They will have to share and take turns with the resources and activities on offer throughout the day. Understanding how they feel and being able to talk about how they feel will support them to negotiate with others, share and take turns as well as make new friends.
Children will have a range of feelings and emotions about starting school and when they are in the classroom. Understanding basic feelings such as happy, sad, cross and excited will support children to be able to talk to adults and other children about how they are feeling. This in turn enables others to help them before they start school and throughout the school day. Children who are able to set their own boundaries will feel confident to say to others that they want to play with them.
Communication and language
We use communications throughout the school day. Children will ask and answer questions during learning activities and be keen to express their own knowledge, ideas and interests. Being able to communicate with others is also important for making new friends and for being able to ask for help when needed. There are a lot of ideas for supporting children with communication when starting school on the https://startingreception.co.uk website.
Your child will have their own peg, draw and exercise books with their name on it. They will also have their own belongings such as school jumpers, coats and bookbags. Therefore, being able to recognise their own name is an important skill which enables them to be independent in the classroom. If they can recognise their own name they will be able to find their own book bag and jumper as they all look the same!
Listening and engaging
We do spend time listening to adults and each other whilst sitting on the carpet for short periods. Register, maths, phonics, talk time and story time take place on the carpet. These activities last a maximum of 10 minutes so being able to listen for a short period of time is important. You can practice this skill by reading a story at bedtime.
There are a lot of things to remember at school such as:
Where is my drawer?
Where do I line up for lunch?
What am I supposed to be doing now?
Where am I supposed to be?
What do I need to do to get ready for home time?
The Reception team is on hand to support children every step of the way with simple and clear instructions which children need to listen to and follow. You can practice this with your children by playing simple listening games such as Simon Says or by asking them to find one item building to two or three different items.
PSJ BITESIZE Challenge
Can you recognise your name?
Can you carry a small plate from your kitchen to your table without spilling the food on the floor?
