ATTENDANCE POLICY
To meet the attendance requirement and gain class credit, students must attend ninety percent (90%) of class sessions.
Semester Course: If a student has met the academic requirement but misses nine (9) days of class which have not been excused, he/she will not earn credit for that class.
Year Course: If a student has met the academic requirement but misses eighteen (18) days of class which have not been excused, he/she will not earn credit for that class.
Report cards and interim reports will be used to notify the parents if their child’s credit is in jeopardy due to attendance.
Parents will be notified by the school once their son/daughter has six (6) days of absence which have not been excused by a doctor.
Parents are urged to express to their children the importance of good attendance and help us with this policy.
STUDENT ABSENCE
Upon returning to school after an absence, a written excuse from a parent/guardian or a medical excuse from a doctor must be turned in within 3 days of returning to school. The excuse must state a reason and the date(s) of absence. Admit slips (Blue slips) will be written between 7:45am – 8:00am in the main office. Students must show their admit slips to all their teachers for assignments to be made up.
PREARRANGED ABSENCES
If a student knows ahead of time that they are going to be absent, the student and parents will need to complete a pre-arranged absence form to let the office know the reason for the absence and the expected time away from school. Proper arrangements then need to be made with each teacher for assignments that may be missed due to the absence. Pre-Arranged absences are considered to be parent notes and will count towards four (4) of the parental notes a student is allowed for the school year.
Students must talk with teachers about makeup work upon returning to school. Make-up work will only be allowed for excused absences and students will have the same number of days as his/her absences to make-up the work missed.
If a student is to be absent for a prolonged period, he/she should contact the school so makeup work may be sent home. There will be no makeup work for any student that has been suspended or expelled from school.
Students will not be given an early dismissal or be permitted to sign themselves out of school without permission from an administrator.
If a student drives to school, a written excuse from their parent or guardian is required. The excuse must state the time and reason for the early dismissal. Early dismissals will be written by the assistant principal between 7:45 am and 8:00am each morning.
Students that do not drive must have their parents or guardian sign them out in the office.
All students must be signed out before they leave school.
Students that arrive late to school must report to the office and sign in.
