SYSC 336U: Networks in Society
Course Description
This course introduces network science and how it can be used to model complex problems in an interconnected society. Students will learn about the basics of network science, including how this new field is continuing to evolve. Students will also explore how network models can be applied to understand real world problems, as well as how seemingly sound network research can lead to false conclusions.
Student learning objectives
Students understand how network science applies to different sciences/disciplines.
Students can describe the basic metrics of network analysis.
Students can identify sociological features of a multi-human system.
Students can apply the themes of the course to current events/personal life experiences.
Students can critically analyze scientific literature, evaluate case studies, and discuss relevant ethical considerations.
Students are able to understand dynamics of the system and the dynamics on the system.
