SYSC 445/545 Application of Data Science
This course provides an introduction to data science as a profession and as a problem-solving methodology. The subject is approached from multiple perspectives beyond that of the data scientist, from applications of varying domain and scale. Readings and lectures cover surveys of current methods and technologies, giving the student an understanding of what’s possible, feasible, and practical. Students also learn of the potential data science at various stages within a project, including exploration, problem discovery, predictive modeling, and interactive visualization. The class is intended as a complement to other courses that focus on the technical aspects of methods and tools, and so provides less detail in those areas.
