In the past year, Nayeli has worked in three different Student Operated Services (SOSes): 5th Avenue Cinema, PSU Food Pantry, and Littman+White Galleries. Her peers have always spoken highly of her and must really enjoy working with her because she has been able to adapt to so many different positions, organizational missions, and teamwork styles. Nayeli's work also speaks for itself. She brings a lot of creative ideas, a desire to improve things, and the energy and follow-through to make things happen. Nayeli always shows up prepared and interested in sharing and learning together. (My favorite is sharing books that we're reading!) She also speaks her mind about what she thinks is right even when our opinions differ, so she doesn't shy away from controversy when it's important. In the past year in her multiple positions, she developed a SNAP marketing plan for the Pantry, built a website for a Parkway North Project concert event, edited over twenty 5th Avenue Cinema podcasts, and got the Littman + White Galleries' Art on Loan agreement updated and transitioned to a paperless process to making it easier for emerging artists to exhibit. Nayeli has a wide variety of skills and interests, which makes everything she does seem easy. Meanwhile, she is building and strengthening foundations for the future of each SOS she works with.
I am so incredibly proud and celebrate of ALL of the Student Operated Service employees this year who have worked hard to continue providing services and programming for Portland State students. You have anchored campus life for others during this PANACADEMIC year.
The 5th Avenue Cinema stayed true to their values and quarterly programming by pairing widely accessible film recommendations with a podcast discussion--always on important social topics. With 20 podcasts and 10 IGTV episodes so far this year, they've already earned over 750 views!
The Littman + White Galleries have curated beautiful exhibitions featuring local and regional BIPOC artists.
Portland State Professional Sound has produced new virtual programming like Album of the Week and the Out of Phase podcast dedicated to bringing music discussion and education to Portland State.
Portland State Programming Board was all virtual this year, but they still still carried on the Midterm Stress Relief and Mid-Night Breakfast traditions creating ways for students to connect with community even via Zoom.
PSU Food Pantry staff have been critical employees working daily on-campus and remotely to adapt services and support students' food needs as best as possible during the pandemic.
The PSU Graphic Design Center's work has been more important than ever in this remote environment, and the new design team is ready for requests for the coming year!
