And the SALPie goes to...
The student went above and beyond advocating for a particular cause for which they are passionate (e.g., environmental sustainability, food justice, transgender rights, etc.)
Positive contribution to the university community
Exemplified excellent leadership skills and organization
The leader was a model to other students in diversity, social responsibility, collaboration, and/or ethics
Elijah Roach: "Constantly advocating for social responsibility in terms of how incoming students interact with students of other races and ethnic backgrounds."
Mamao Tanielu: "Mamao was very passionate about mental health. Having this theme (mental health) for PacFest definitely reached out to many people and we have received a lot of positive comments about how this was a great topic to choose."
Nicole Tagalicud: "Student leader of Pacific Islanders Club, Nicole Tagalicud, actually has TWO small businesses, one in which promotes women self defense. It is relieving to know that Nicole truly cares about this topic and is doing something about it -- in her case, promoting stylish self defense key chains. In PIC, she is always willing to do the extra work in order to produce a better outcome! Her smile and social skills makes everyone feel welcomed and as if we have been friends for a long time."
Robert Northman: "Robert Northman has been a staunch advocate for formerly incarcerated persons and members of gangs who seek to pursue advancement in higher learning. Robert has not only been a model for those marginalized groups, but has been a model of excellence for all students."
Benjamin Turner: "Benjamin Turner has been an outstanding advocate this year! Ben is the Manager of Pantry Resources at the PSU Food Pantry, but this work is above and beyond his position responsibilities. Ben has participated at the state level providing testimonies to the state legislature to advocate for funding that will benefit Portland State students."
