Sandra A. McCoy

Areas of Achievement:

Sandra Ann McCoy was born in Portland, Oregon on June 11, 1950 to Les and Irene McCoy. She grew up in Tigard, Oregon attending West Hills Christian School and Tigard High School. Utilizing student loans and scholarships, she was able to pay for all of her higher education herself. She attended Portland State University and the University of Oregon Dental School receiving a degree in dental hygiene in 1972, and her DMD from the University of Oregon Health Sciences Center in 1981. After a short time in general practice and teaching, she returned to OHSU to earn a Certificate in Periodontics in 1985. Professionally, she enjoyed lecturing at home and abroad to dentists and dental hygienists. However, she found the most enjoyment in working with her patients in private practice. Since many people have had negative dental experiences, she tried to make her patients comfortable and knowledgeable while maintaining their oral health.

Sandra has been a good friend and role model for her many nieces and nephews. She loves to entertain and keeps family and friends happy with her favorite recipes, especially hors de oeuvres.

Dr. McCoy has been an inspiration and mentor to young women in dental hygiene, dentistry, and periodontics for many years. She has served in various roles with many dental organizations, among them, the Board of the OHSU School of Dentistry Alumni Association, volunteered as an examiner for the Periodontics section of the Western Regional Board of Dental Examiners, and has been President of the Oregon Society of Periodontists.
