Marjorie Saltzman

Marjorie Saltzman—a dedicated volunteer with Planned Parenthood of the Columbia/Willamette. Throughout her life, the two causes closest to Marjorie Saltzman’s heart have been her family—her late husband, Jack, her four children and four grandchildren—and Planned Parenthood of the Columbia/Willamette.

Marjorie Saltzman is a pioneer in the field of family planning. She has been volunteering at Planned Parenthood of the Columbia/Willamette for almost forty years, longer than any other person in the agency’s history. She served on the Planned Parenthood Board of Directors between 1971 and 1976. During her distinguished career, Marge counseled and taught thousands of teenagers, community groups, and youth service agencies about birth control, family planning, and responsible sexuality education, often traveling to small towns in rural Oregon and Washington where there was no other access to such information. Today, in her eighties, Marge still tirelessly visits schools and women’s correctional facilities to help young people learn to prevent unintended pregnancy. She has also prepared a program to educate grandparents on how to discuss sexual health with their grandchildren.

Today, the sexuality education programs that Marjorie Saltzman founded reach over fifteen thousand youth a year, through Teen Clinics and an award winning Teen Council program that trains specially selected students to educate their peers in area high schools.

To honor Marjorie’s lifelong dedication to pregnancy prevention for young people, the new education wing at Planned Parenthood’s Regional Services Center has been named the Marjorie Saltzman Education Wing.
