Judi Johansen

Known for her boundless energy, keen intellect, and supportive leadership style, Judi Johansen represents the finest and best of a new generation of women in engineering and business.

Judi received her bachelor’s degree in political science in 1980 from Colorado State University and her law degree in 1983 from Northwestern School of Law at Lewis & Clark College in Portland, Oregon.

Judi came to PacifiCorp from the Bonneville Power Administration (BPA), where she served as Administrator and Chief Executive Officer. After joining PacifiCorp in December 2000 as Executive Vice President of Regulation and External Affairs, Judi came to her current post a year later. As President and CEO of PacifiCorp, she is responsible for the development of world-class operational efficiency across the company, including oversight of the company’s mining operations, regulated power generation facilities, wholesale energy services, transmission, and distribution.

In 1996, Judi joined Washington Water Power, becoming Vice President of Business Development with Avista Energy, the company’s wholesale power marketing subsidiary. From 1994 to 1996, she was Vice President for Generation Supply with executive oversight of power supply, scheduling, trading, short-term sales, and federal and non-federal projects. And from 1983 to 1986, Judi served as a staff attorney for the Public Power Council, a trade association of northwest consumer-owned electric utilities. She also joined the Tacoma, Washington law firm of Gordon, Thomas, Honeywell, in 1983, becoming partner in 1989.

Judi is highly sought after by other business and civic leaders for her legal and managerial expertise. She has been generous with her time and energy in response, serving on a wide range of boards and in appointed positions. She is a former member of the Board of Directors of the Portland branch of the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco, a director of the Oregon Business Council, and trustee of law at Lewis & Clark College. She serves on the boards of Schnitzer Steel and the Bank of Cascades, and she is a member of the Oregon and Washington state bar associations. Judi also is a senior fellow of the American Leadership Forum of Oregon and was a governor’s appointee to the Montana Technical Advisory Committee on electric industry restructuring. In November 2003, the Oregon Legislature confirmed Governor Ted Kulongoski’s appointment of Judi to the Port of Portland Commission.

A Colorado native, Judi currently lives in Portland, Oregon with her husband, Kirk, and their daughter, Anna. She enjoys biking, cooking, skiing, and music.
