Though Betty was with our family for only the last seven years of her life, the enriching impact of her radiant, unconditional love will last for several generations.
Her valiant fight with cancer which caused her to lose of over 57 pounds, from 137 to 80, was an inspiration. She never complained while spending most of her waking hours comforting other sick and distressed friends and strangers as well.
Betty considered her cancer to be one of her greatest blessings! She said that the caring love she was given by all the members of the Carey family was “the most uplifting experience of mylife!”
Betty was an orphan who never knew her parents. She often observed how blessed her grandchildren were to have the sustaining love of their parents. Her deep love of the children was a source of spiritual nourishment for all of us to witness.
Betty felt the most significant accomplishment of her life was her recruitment of many of her female friends to become Christians. Her Bible study groups emboldened and deepened the elevating love each member had for each other and their own families as well. Her leadership in many of the social activities in the adult community she lived was highly regarded and sought-after.
