COE Faculty Promotion & Tenure Resources

The COE Promotion and Tenure Committee created this site as a resource to support COE faculty in navigating the Promotion and Tenure process. Below are links to a variety of resources from the university and the Graduate School of Education.

The P&T Committee offers an informal list of year-by-year suggestions.

When developing your portfolio you will want to read closely COE Promotion and Tenure Guidelines and the PSU P&T Guidelines. Both are in the COE Handbook.

For each review (3rd year, promotion and/or tenure), candidates will submit an e-Portfolio (Google site only) with a Self-Appraisal and Curriculum Vita and supporting documents.

  • The Curriculum Vita must follow the PSU Curriculum Vita Format. All citations should be completed and accurate, following APA style.

    • The COE P & T Committee has provided the Sample CV with additional guidance for effectively organizing your vita and presenting course information -- follow the suggested format in this document

  • The Self-Appraisal, in no more than 2500 words for Promotion/Tenure and Third-Year Reviews (1500 for annual reviews) (a) describes how the scholarly agenda relates to the department's academic mission within the context of the university mission and the discipline as a whole, (b) articulates the candidate's teaching philosophy and scholarly agenda, (c) summarizes the quality and significance of the candidate's (i) research (ii) teaching, and (iii) community outreach/governance and other professionally related services; and (d) projects future work.

  • External Review is part of the process when you apply for Promotion and/or Tenure. You will be asked to contact potential external reviewers and work with your department chair to come up with a suitable list. The form includes additional guidelines and information for potential reviewers. You may download for your use.

If you have additional questions please contact one of your departmental representatives on the P & T committee, P & T chair, or any committee member.
