A project of Portland State University and the Clackamas River Basin Council
In 2022, Portland State University's Geography Department began geospatial analysis and modeling of stream temperature and fish habitat in the Clackamas River Basin. Stream temperature is an important metric of stream health and habitat suitability, as is reflected in Oregon's state and federal law, regulation and policy. This project includes the following overarching goals:
1) Establish a basin-wide network of stream temperature monitoring sites by partnering with local agencies, industry and individuals.
2) Organize, analyze and map stream temperatures and related datasets across the basin using a combined process and statistics-based modeling process.
3) Simulate future stream temperatures across the watershed under a suite of representative future climate change scenarios.
4) Make available findings and recommendations to local land, fish and wildlife managers.
