The Career Analysts, founded by faculty advisor Dr. Dara Shifrer in 2017, is a group dedicated to training sociologists as collaborative researchers. With the understanding that publications and citations are "academic currency", this group prioritizes actionable feedback to help each member achieve their professional goals.
Housed in the Sociology Department at Portland State University, this group is comprised of faculty members, postdoctoral students, graduate students, undergraduate, and post-baccalaureate students in Sociology and related fields.
Each week, one or more members of the group present a current project of for feedback. Due to the large range of interests and subfields, no two weeks are the same! From qualitative to quantitative, from dissertation proposals to conference presentations: the CAREER Analysts do it all! We frequently discuss the sociology of education, health, and environment and welcome perspectives from all disciplines.
The CAREER Analysts are a well-traveled bunch, presenting at local, national, and international conferences (often thanks to generous travel funding opportunities from the Sociology Department at Portland State University as well as other funding sources). Here are some presentations from across the years!
