How do you deal with loud people in group work or when you are out with friends?

If I were in a situation where my classmates were really loud during group work, I would ask my teacher if we could work in a quiet room or in an empty hallway. In this quiet space, I would ask each person to take turns speaking. That way, there is minimal background noise and one person can be heard clearly at a time without talking loudly over each other.
If a certain person was still talking loudly after that, I would kindly let the person know. Some people might be unaware that they speak so loudly. I have had situations where people have told me to speak up a bit more because I speak softly when I think I am speaking at a normal volume.
As for the situation when you are out with your friends, I think the best solution is to explain kindly to your friends about how loud they can be and why you are sensitive to their volume. Our hearing aids and cochlear implants make everything louder, so it is important that we teach our friends about this. They might think they are helping you by speaking louder, not realizing that your device has already turned up the volume.
A person can be unaware of how their volume affects you. I think the best possible solution is to sit and talk with them about your concerns. It is totally okay to ask a person to pipe down a bit sometimes, so don’t be afraid to speak up about it!
