On Saturday June 1st, 2024, the PDSB Deaf & Hard of Hearing department held their first annual Hear Together Jamboree at Hickory Wood Public School, a playdate for students who are Deaf & hard of hearing in kindergarten to grade 5 to attend with their families. With over 100 people in attendance, our inaugural event was a huge success, and feedback from parents was very positive! Our goal was for students and their families to make connections with others in the DHH community, and we saw many new relationships being made throughout the day. Families enjoyed a variety of activity stations-- between craft tables, face painting, parachute games, bubbles, ladder golf, bean bag toss, chalk drawing, and frisbee, fun in the sun was had by all!
Special thanks to Simeon Canada for providing giveaways for families, as well as community partners ErinoakKids and VOICE for Children who are Deaf and Hard of Hearing for setting up information booths for families to learn more about their models of support. A big thank you to our planning committee for making the day run so smoothly and to our leadership for supporting the initiative, including Coordinating Principal Jeff Bertrand, who joined in for some of the fun!
