Our 7th Annual DHH Gala at Peel District School Board was a joyful gathering for all! Thanks to everyone who helped make the 2024 DHH Gala: Creative Expressions that Speak Volumes at the Living Arts Centre such a wonderful event. Thank you to: the students for bringing your positive energy and creativity to our mask making workshop; our team of teachers of the Deaf/ hard of hearing and staff at the Living Arts Centre for helping the day run so smoothly; FM Technologist Vanessa Reston for ensuring that both events were accessible for all students; and our Deaf/ hard of hearing department members for your unwavering support of the event, including Coordinator Cindy Harmon, Educational Audiologist Vicky Papaioannou, Coordinating Principals Jeff Bertrand and George Soultanidis, and Superintendent Claudine Scuccato, who all joined in the fun with us! With over 100 PDSB students who are Deaf/hard of hearing in grades 6-12 in attendance between both days, this continues in the tradition of last year as being a more well-attended social event with each school year!Â
On Wednesday May 15th, our middle school students enjoyed games, the mask-making workshop, a pizza lunch, and a presentation by Peter Stelmacovich (and his support dog, Emma) of Supportive Hearing Systems. On Tuesday May 16th, high school students enjoyed games, the mask-making workshop, a pizza lunch, and inspiring presentations by special guests Ms. Kennedy, a teacher from Applewood Heights Secondary School and Peter Stelmacovich of Supportive Hearing Systems, who are both members of the DHH community. Thank you to the team at Supportive Hearing Systems for donating the swag bags for our students and raffle items. We are very grateful for your continued generosity.
