Hello everyone! My name is Sara Kochra and I graduated from Stephen Lewis Secondary School with a Specialist High Skills Majors (SHSM) in 2017. I also received a Business Award.
Education: I am now attending McMaster University, studying both law and commerce for an undergraduate degree.
Work Experience: In the summer of 2016, I worked at The Heart and Stroke Foundation - Peel Region Office as an Administrative/Bookkeeping Assistant. It was truly a great experience and everyone was so welcoming and helpful. In my first year, I was involved with Spark, a program that connects first-year students with upper-year mentors to support them with their transition to McMaster University.
Extracurricular Activities: I am also Vice President of Finance for the McMaster Hearing Society (MHS). We organize and host multiple events and workshops to spread awareness about the challenges of those who are deaf and hard of hearing and to inform students about what they can do to help. We also encourage students to learn American Sign Language (ASL) and pursue a career in the audiology field.
Amplification: I have a cochlear implant on the left ear. I am using a sound processor, called the Kanso, along with other assistive devices, including a Mini Microphone 2+ which works just like a regular FM system.
Hobbies: Some things that I enjoy doing during my free time are traveling, working on Photoshop, and playing with my niece.
