AMU 103 is designed for students that have never played a band instrument before. Students may choose to play one of the following instruments: flute, clarinet, alto sax, tenor sax, trumpet, french horn, trombone, baritone, tuba and percussion. Instruments and books are provided for student use during the semester; instrument rentals are not required. This introductory course will provide students with the necessary skills to continue studying music at the Grade 10 level (AMU 203).
AMU 105 is designed for students that have been playing a band instrument for a minimum of 2 years. Students build on the skills taught in middle school music. This course emphasizes performance and introduces solo writing composition. Students in the AMU 105 course are encouraged join the Intermediate Concert Band.
AMU 203 is designed for students that have successfully completed the beginner band course (AMU 103). This course builds on the fundamentals taught in AMU 103. AMU 203 students are encouraged to join the Intermediate Concert band.
AMU 205 is designed for students that have successfully completed the experienced Grade 9 band course (AMU 105). This course emphasizes performance and introduces improvisation as well as solo and accompaniment composition. AMU 205 students are encouraged to join the Intermediate Concert Band.
AMU 3MO is designed for students that have successfully completed the experienced Grade 10 band course (AMU 205) or (AMU 203). This course emphasizes performance and introduces arranging for the Concert Band. AMU 3MO students are encouraged to join the Senior Concert Band.
AMU 4MO is designed for students that have successfully completed the experienced Grade 11 band course (AMU 3MO). In addition to performance, this course introduces more advanced music concepts such as conducting, instrumental teaching and composing for the concert band. AMU 4MO students are encouraged to join the Senior Concert Band.
