Dear Parents
Currently our Y6 children and some staff are on Outward Bound residential trip in the desert. These experiences offer significant benefits for children’s personal, social, and academic growth.
Building Confidence and Resilience
Outdoor challenges push children beyond their comfort zones, helping them develop confidence and problem-solving skills in a supportive environment. Research shows that such experiences enhance independence and self-esteem.
Developing Teamwork and Social Skills
Collaborative activities teach children communication, leadership, and cooperation. Studies indicate that working together in outdoor settings fosters empathy and improves peer relationships.
Boosting Learning and Well-being
Outdoor education has been linked to improved academic performance, especially in subjects like science and maths. Additionally, time in nature enhances mental well-being, reducing stress and promoting overall health.
We believe this residential trip will be a valuable learning experience for our children. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us.
Please see a few details on the provider we use, Outward Bound.
Established in 1941 by the educational visionary Kurt Hahn, and Laurence Holt, and now operating in more than 35 nations, Outward Bound is the world’s leading experiential learning organization, with a focus on the development of human talent through learning outdoors.
Outward Bound Oman was launched in May 2009 and was further established in 2014 by Ministerial Decree. From school students to job seekers and the emerging talent of leading organisations, our courses have helped shape the lives of more than 16,000 people, helping equip individuals with the skills and toolkit to help make Vision 2040 a reality for Oman.
Outward Bound Oman is an educational not for profit foundation established by ministerial decision, and is part of the international Outward Bound community that started in Wales in 1941.
Using the mountains and deserts of Oman, our courses help develop people from all walks of life. Through the generosity of our partners, we are able to run adventurous and challenging outdoor learning programmes that equip people with valuable skills for education, work and life.
Working with young people from both inside and outside of Oman, we help them become more confident, more effective and more capable at school, college and in the workplace.
In addition to our work with young people, we also deliver training and professional development programmes for a growing number of leading companies in the region, as well as bespoke leadership and team development courses.
Advance Notice Teachers Day falls on the 24th of February, we believe we will be directed to close by the MOE on this day. Once the date is confirmed then we will inform you at the earliest opportunity.

International Week
Last week, PDO School was a vibrant hub of cultural learning as we celebrated International Week. This year, our focus was on festivals celebrated both within our diverse school community and across the globe.

Thanks to our talented LSAs, the Learning Souk was once again transformed with marvellous decorations that captured the essence of each festival. These displays sparked curiosity and wonder in our young learners, adding another layer of exploration and discovery to their experiences.
Throughout the week, the children were afforded unique opportunities to develop their sense of international mindedness and global citizenship. Each morning, the entire school gathered to celebrate elements that are common across all festivals; fashion, song, and dance. It was wonderful to see the incredible talents of our children, parents, and even professional dancers from the Classic Music and Arts Institute, as they showcased their artistry.
Our specialist teachers created an engaging carousel of activities designed to deepen the children’s understanding of festivals. Across six zones - dance, music, language, inquiry, games, and craft- students explored different aspects of global celebrations. Each activity provided hands-on learning experiences that encouraged children to connect with and appreciate diverse cultures.
The week culminated in a thrilling whole-school Kahoot quiz, where children and parents tested their powers of observation and understanding. The energy in the hall was electric as teams eagerly competed, demonstrating just how much they had learned. Finally, we rounded off the festivities with a shared picnic on the field, where we sampled culinary delights from around the world - a perfect and tasty way to celebrate the richness of cultures through food.
A massive thank you goes out to all the focal parents and supporting parents who dedicated their time and energy to making each assembly an unforgettable experience. Your efforts were instrumental in bringing this wonderful celebration to life! International Week was truly a testament to the power of community, learning, and cultural appreciation!
Student Council's Sensational Sensory Garden
This week, Student Council excitedly unveiled our brand new Sensory Garden.
Over the past few months, the Student Council has worked hard researching, planning, and designing every part of the garden. Their goal was to create a peaceful, relaxing area for everyone to enjoy and explore. This links to the UN SDG goal to improve wellbeing.

The Sensory Garden is full of exciting elements to awaken all of your senses. You can listen to the gentle sound of wind chimes, smell the wonderful aromas from the herb garden, and feel the different textures along the walking trail. Soon, we will also be adding a water feature, which will bring a calming sound of flowing water to the garden.
This new space is a perfect place to relax, take a break, and enjoy nature. Thee are now more shaded seating areas, a chalk board to express yourself and an outdoor library. Children have also made bird boxes and noughts and crosses games from sustainable resources to enhance the experience. Don't forget to keep an eye out for the secret fairy gardens too!
A massive thank you to the Student Council for their hard work and creativity in bringing this wonderful idea to life!

PTA Event - SWAP and SHOP! - 26 February 5-6:30pm
A wonderful opportunity for our children to engage with the United Nations Sustainability Goals and ‘exchange’ quality items rather than buy new. A super community event! Trade in your quality books, toys, fashion accessories, or costumes for 'new to you' items at the Swap & Shop! With book week taking place in April, we also thought ahead. On many occasions children often use a book week costume once… this opportunity allows the potential to bring these in and swap. Naturally it can’t be guaranteed another will be found but the opportunity is there.
How it will work:
During normal school drop off times, Sunday 9 February until Thursday 13 February, children will hand their items to a member of PTA by the main reception desk. When the children drop off items, they will receive a receipt to help them remember what type of items they can chose from on the day. The categories will be colour coded- blue for books, green for toys, red for fashion accessories and costumes.
On the day of the event, children will visit the check in desk for the event. They will be given colour coded coupons for the items they previously turned in. The children can use those coupons to “swap” for same category items.
All items will be displayed in the Learning Souk for a calm shopping experience.

Focusing on collaboration and communication, students were encouraged to read with expression and appropriate intonation and it is fair to say our younger students were captivated by the story-telling. Teaming up with across the school allows for increased collaboration. By encouraging children to read aloud, this opportunity promotes not just reading as a skill, but also as an enjoyable interactive activity for all ages.

In the sand, little hands eagerly dug for buried treasure, using magic rods and scoops to uncover hidden surprises. Over at the water area, we had so much fun building a mini slide for our tiny minibeasts, sending them splashing down again and again. It was a morning full of laughter, wonder, and hands-on fun!
