Dear Parents

Celebrating Open Communication: The Key to Supporting Our Students

We are pleased to reflect on another successful round of Parent-Teacher Consultations (PTCs). These meetings are always a valuable opportunity for parents and teachers to discuss each child’s progress, celebrate achievements, and collaborate on strategies for further development. However, at our school, these conversations are not confined to formal consultation days—open and ongoing communication between parents and teachers is a fundamental part of our approach.

Research consistently shows that strong parent-teacher partnerships have a significant positive impact on student outcomes. According to studies by the Education Endowment Foundation, regular parental engagement is linked to improved academic performance, better behaviour and greater confidence in learning. By maintaining an open dialogue, we ensure that children receive consistent support both at home and in the classroom, helping them to thrive.

One of the strengths of our school is the ease with which parents can reach out to teachers at any time of the year. Whether through scheduled meetings, Seesaw, email, or informal discussions, we encourage ongoing conversations about each child’s learning journey. If you ever have a concern or simply want to check in on your child’s progress, please know that all teachers are available to meet with you.

We are grateful for the positive and engaged partnership we share with our families and thank you for your attendance this week at our PTCs.

HSSE- We have observed lately several scooter related incidents, these have included facial injuries and other more serious accidents. We often observe in the morning  the speeds and acceleration of the scooters. These are undoubtedly an exciting mode of transport, however they do provide challenge for younger children who are not able to judge distance and braking distances accurately. I believe that some models do have restrictions on speed and I would ask parents to review this and other settings on the scooter. A conversation is also helpful to help students develop a deeper understanding of their responsibilities to themselves  and other pedestrians.

World Maths Day: Wednesday March 26th

As part of the celebration for World Maths Day the children will be receiving their login for the Mathletics website: https://sign-in.mathletics.com/. They should click on the World Maths Day button.  The children love competing against the computer, class mates and other children around the world in this competition. At the moment, it is the warm up time in preparation for the big day.

On World Maths Day, the children will be given the opportunity to take part in the Mathletics world wide challenge. This website has proven in the past to be an excellent motivator for the children practising their number facts to support their Maths Passport. Their recall improves and their responses get faster. This game will only be available for a few weeks after World Maths Day.

Also on World Maths Day, there will be other Maths activities including Maths Mysteries, practical maths tasks and Times Table Rockstar challenges. From the beginning of next week, there will be a Maths orienteering challenge with Maths questions placed around the playground. The children, working in Mileposts, will have to use the map to find the letters and answer the Maths calculations. An exciting week of learning activities for our children!

If anxiety could have a shape, a colour, and a texture—how would it look?

In Y6 Wellbeing class with Ms. Khadija, we explored the feeling of anxiety. We learned that emotions don’t just exist in our minds—they show up in our bodies too. Anxiety can feel like a racing heart, tense shoulders, or a stomach full of butterflies.

To bring this invisible feeling to life, we created Anxiety Creatures! Each student designed a creature that represented how anxiety feels to them—some were spiky, some tangled, some small and shaky. This activity helped us understand that while anxiety can be overwhelming, recognising it, is the first step in learning how to manage it.

Toddler hut

This week at Toddler Hut, we dived into ocean fun! The children explored a small world ocean tray, splashed fish in the water and got creative painting on tinfoil. A wonderful week of exploration and discovery!

Early Years

This week in Pre-Nursery, we dove into our Ocean-Treasure unit! The children explored a small world ocean tray, created underwater art with stamped fish and pretended to be deep-sea divers. We also enjoyed The Rainbow Fish, sparking discussions on kindness and sharing. A fantastic week of hands-on learning!

Milepost 1

This week YR2 hosted an exciting Exit Point to take their friends and families on a journey from the past to the present and future of transportation!

The students started off with a wonderful introduction to their learning throughout the topic, including Geography and History and highlighted the cross curricular links to the specialist subjects, including Art, STEM and IT .  We were extremely fortunate that Ms. Kirsty and Ms. Liz participated in the Exit Point, further highlighting the strong learning that takes place across the school and demonstrating the valuable learning that takes place in their lessons.

The children enjoyed showing their parents how to control a beebot and used lots of key vocabulary in their demonstrations.  They also loved making paper boats with their parents and used science specific language to show the effects of forces in boat races.

Finally, the children went through their learning journey by showing their learning in their books and presented a poster to show the evolution of a form of transport.

Thank you to everyone for making the Exit Point a success!

Milepost 2

This week in Milepost 2 as part of the Year 4 'Explorers and Adventurers' unit we created artwork in the style of Margaret Mee.

Children used watercolours to create their own botanical drawing of a real life flower specimen. Cross-curricular links with Art helped children build on previous skills. Children have made interesting observations linking many different types of explorers to a range of time periods and we discussed the pros and cons when deciding on the most efficient and purposeful way to record new discoveries.

Milepost 3

Year 6 students have been exploring the challenges of living on Mars by designing their own shelters.

Using their knowledge of Mars' geographical features, they identified essential needs and possible luxuries for survival. The children worked within a budget, applying mathematical skills such as measuring area and perimeter, as well as creating nets of shapes to develop detailed 2D and 3D shelter plans. Throughout the project, they demonstrated their understanding by reflecting on their designs, making changes and improvements along the way. This creative and practical project has allowed students to apply their learning in exciting and imaginative ways!

From quality used books, costumes, fashion accessories and toys, our children enjoyed a wonderful opportunity to swap their items and take home something different. The spirit of the event, centered around sustainability, was embraced by all and children and parents. Thank you to all the parents and children that took part - the special guest was also well received.

Thank you to all the PTA for the time taken to organise and run the event so smoothly.
