P7S Class 2021/22

Welcome BACK!

Art Day

The children had a great time during Art Day yesterday. Continuing with self-portraits, the children used wire to create outlines of their faces. I think they did a pretty good job! They also started making their graduation hats, ready for next week's ceremony!

Choose Kind

We are working our way through Wonder at quite a speed in order to complete it before the year ends! Today, the children thought about the main characters and ordered them on a scale of who was the kindest and who was not so kind. They then compared their answers with another group - eventually this led to the whole class agreeing on the scale, using their inference skills to explain their choices.

Rehearsals

Today all of the P7 children got together for the first time to do a run through of their show. They will be performing to the Phase 2 and Year 5 children on Thursday before showing to all of you parents next week!

Maths

In Maths this week, the children have been looking at angles and lots of them: angles on a straight line, angles around a point, opposite angles and angles in a triangle. They are showing a sound understanding of them all!

English

Most of our English lessons are spent working our way through the book Wonder. The class are enjoying reading from the different characters' perspective and today wrote an apology letter from Jack Will to Julian.

The Show Must Go On!

With only a few days to go until their dress rehearsal, P7S have been working hard on their background settings for the assembly. They have included sound effects, a photo collage and credit notes as well as listing (spoiler alert!) the suspects of the gruesome crime that is part of our assembly. On top of this, the class are having to work hard to learn their lines so they will no longer need the script. This is their homework this week; therefore there will be no Maths or English this week.

Jubilee Problem Solving

Just like every Thursday, we started the day with our group problem-solving in Maths but this time we had a Jubilee-themed problem to solve. The children worked well together to win table points and solve the Jubilee problem.

Later on, we completed a Jubilee quiz to mark the day!

Wonder Characterisations

In English we have continued to analyse the different characters and their points of view. The children worked in their groups to create a Venn diagram that showed the personality traits of both Via and Auggie; they were able to use evidence from the text to back up their answers.

Getting Stage Ready

This morning, we had our first practice on the stage as the children were able to use the space to rehearse and begin to think about staging and voice. From this we were also able to start thinking about the props, sound effects and the lighting that we will need too.

Emotional Awareness

Today with Miss Khadija, the children thought about emotional awareness. They started by playing a warm-up game before looking at how film characters can show emotion such as fear and sadness. P7S then reflected on moments when they may have felt these emotions and talked about how feeling these emotions is complete normal.

Maths

In Maths, P7S worked together to carry out their own investigation on averages. Most groups checked the temperatures of a city over the course of the week and then found the median, mode and mean of that place.

Library

The library has had a little makeover and is a great space for the children to enjoy some reading time. Please encourage your child to read each day as it has so many benefits for them. They can pick new books each Sunday.

Rehearsals

The class has been rehearsing hard for their end of year assembly. Tomorrow, we will be doing our first practice on the stage - the children will need to learn their lines as part of their homework. Less than 3 weeks to go!

Change In Voice

We are now shifting from Auggie's perspective to Via's in the class novel Wonder. The children worked in their groups today to rewrite parts of the story, that had been told by Auggie, from Via's perspective.

Pie Chart Constructing

The children have been learning how to construct pie charts in Maths this week using their understanding of angles. Today, they came up with their own idea and surveyed the class before completing their chart.
I am really impressed with their efforts this week as this is not the easiest of tasks!

Internal Monologues

In English, the children wrote an internal monologue from the perspective of Jack Will. They spent a lot of time thinking about his actions and how this compared to his inner feelings. They then had to show their speaking and listening skills by performing their monologues to the class.

The children have now finished their precepts and posed with them in front of their Wonder self-portraits!😊

Problem Solving

Thursday continues to be our Problem Solving & Arithmetic day.
Today, the children had to work together on a range of Maths clues to solve the mystery - they all did an excellent job where they applied the skills they have learnt in lessons.

P7S are getting stuck into the book 'Wonder' - today they looked at what a precept is and had a go at creating their own ones. They also have a secret homework mission linked to our text!🤫

Wonder Homework

Circles!

In Maths today, the children learnt about the different parts of the circle. They investigated the relationship between the radius and diameter, learning that the diameter is double the length of the radius. I'm looking forward to introducing them to Pi as the week goes on!

Role-Play Wonder

After reading a couple more chapters of our novel Wonder, the children got into character by acting out their predictions of Auggie's first day of school. By doing so, the children were able to develop their understanding of the different characters.

PDO World Book DAY

The children have worked so hard on their assessments this week - I am so proud of them! It was really nice to finish off the week with our own World Book Day - don't the children look great?! We worked on our Wonder self-portraits, had a parade, did a whole phase Kahoots on the teachers' favourite books and of course had the prizes for the best costumes and art pieces!

Parading About

Welcome Back!

It has been good to see the children looking refreshed after the Eid break. We have gone straight into revision sessions for Maths and English; assessments will be taking place throughout the week. They've done a great job working together on some of the more trickier assessment-style questions. This afternoon, the class then shared their favourite memories of one another as we look to their end-of-term assembly.

Maths

In Maths this week, the class have been learning all about line graphs. Today they had to research their own data - on either a country's average temperatures or population over time- and construct line graphs from this information.

English

The children are really enjoying the book 'Wonder'. Yesterday, they thought and wrote about a funny anecdote, having looking at one in the text, whilst today they started learning about the different characters.

Welcome back to our third and final term! Today we jumped straight back into everything, starting our new text 'Wonder' in English whilst interpreting line graphs in Maths. We also started thinking about ideas for the end of year assembly - I can't believe P7S have only got 10 weeks to go!
