This week is our big “Change for Change” event. We are so close to reaching our goal so we can start work on the playground. Please help your kids gather up change that they can put in the big buckets in the front hallway this week. We are also happy to accept checks and paper money as well! You may be interested to know that the “Change for Change” event idea actually came to Dr. Jones when one of our students handed Dr. Jones a ziploc bag full of the money from her piggy bank and told Dr. Jones she wanted to help with the playground. As adults, we may not always appreciate how important recess is to our kids. They really cherish that time outside and they really need a dry, safe surface on which to play. It obviously means a lot to that little girl. Please help us make it a reality.

Speaking of being outside, Field Day is coming up on May 17th. More information will be coming your way soon, but you might want to start preparing for sunscreen and hydration.

The end of the school year is fast approaching and we have a couple housekeeping messages.

First, library books are due this week. Ms. Laura has to collect all the books and count every single book in the library. That’s a big job, so we need all library books turned in by this week.

And while we’re on the subject of books, we are participating in a book drive to collect books for the Words on Wheels bus. New or gently used books are welcome and appreciated. You can drop off books at the front desk and we will get them where they need to go.

And finally, If you have been in the front hallway lately, you may have noticed one or two articles of clothing in the lost and found. Actually, we have one rack with hangers and five folding tables with lost clothes. We have been asking the kids to look for their stuff, but if you are dropping off or picking up in the next few days, you may want to take a look for yourself. This Wednesday all the leftover clothing will be donated to a local charity. Please pick up anything you can before Wednesday. And remember for next year, per the school handbook, coats, jackets, sweaters, anything that might get taken off and left somewhere, should have your child’s name in it so we can get it back to you when it’s lost.

The Silent Auction on the PSES PTO Facebook page closes tomorrow (Tuesday) at noon. Don’t miss out on these awesome items...go bid now! All profits from this event and all remaining events this school year go directly toward the playground floor resurfacing goal. We are getting so close with the plan being to complete the project week of Memorial Day if the goal is met!

Next week is the Change for Change AND Teacher Appreciation Week!

School Kidz Supply Kit paper forms and money are due next Friday, May 10th. Paper forms cannot be taken after that date, but you may order online through Friday, May 17th. The kits will be in the classroom on your child’s first day of school in July.

Clutter to Cash yard sale flyers went home last week and are due back May 15th. The yard sale will be Saturday, May 25 8-12. Rent a parking space for $15, or 2 for $25 and keep the profit. If you don't want to sell anything, come and shop to help out our Prescott families.

Thank you to everyone who helped make McDonald’s Spirit Night a success including the pups who worked so hard serving, cleaning, and holding open doors for people. We made a little over $300 to go toward the playground goal thanks to McDonald’s on Jefferson! There will be one last Spirit Night this school year at Chick Fil A from 5-8p May 16th for Mobile orders only.

Please collect all school library books. They will be due soon!

April 24, 2019

Hello Prescott Families, this is Dale Bryant, your school counselor, with a few notes from our wonderful PTO.

Field Day Spirit Gear order forms were due today (Wednesday). PTO will be unable to take any after 9am tomorrow morning in order to get the totals sent in to Express Signs. Side note, Field Day is Friday, May 17th!

McDonald’s Spirit Night is tomorrow (Thursday) from 5-7pm at the Jefferson Ave. location. You can drive thru or come join us inside!

The PSES Silent Auction is going on now on the PSES PTO Facebook page and will continue through next Tuesday the 30th. Are you a fan of the Chicago Cubs, CrossFit Mayhem, or Judah and the Lion? Do you want to be an encore teacher for a day? You definitely want to check out this auction!

Looking ahead, May 6th-10th is the Change for Change event. Now is the time to start looking under couch cushions and in that little compartment in the car that no one really knows what it’s for, so you just end up tossing your change in there. But then it’s annoying when you turn a corner and it all slides together and your get that clinking noise that’s irritating when you are trying to listen to your favorite podcast about why they quit flying the Concord. So you might as well gather it up and donate it to the school so you can enjoy some uninterrupted me time in between appointments for the kids. AND Teacher Appreciation Week is also May 6-10. If you need to see a Favorite Things List, they all on the PSES Website under the PTO tab! I would tell you that my list is at the bottom of the page under the heading of “office” but I am sure you have already printed it off and have it hanging on your refrigerator.

All of these PTO events will all go toward the playground resurfacing goal! We are so close with approximately $4000 to go! We really do appreciate your help!

April 14, 2019

Hello Prescott families, this is Dale Bryant, your school counselor, with some updates.

Spring has sprung and it's only natural for a child's fancy to turn to thoughts of.. . . fast food. You are welcome to come and eat lunch with your child, but if you bring fast food, please remember that you will have to eat at the picnic tables outside the cafeteria hallway. If you bring home cooked food or buy lunch in the cafeteria, you may eat at one of the tables reserved for parents. And, due to confidentiality, we ask that you spend that quality time with just your child. Trust me, you’ll be glad you had that one on one time in a few years when you're sitting across the table from a surly teenager who speaks to you in grunts and won't take their eyes off their iPhone 25C with enhanced holographic messaging.

We have another change that involves our whole campus, both the elementary and the middle school. We are no longer allowed to have someone sign in on our side and walk to the other side and this is the same for the middle school. Due to concerns for the safety and security of the children on our entire campus, if you have to visit both schools, you will have to sign out of one school and drive around to the other school to sign in there. There is no other effective way for us to monitor who is in our building at any given time. I’m sure you will agree that we need to do everything we can to keep your children safe.

For our 4th grade parents, 5th grade orientation is Monday May 6th at 5:30 at the middle school. This is the time for you to see where your kids will be learning next year and to meet their new teachers. Please, please, please, don’t compare them to me. Who could live up to that standard. Alas, they are only human. Actually, they are all really nice and my 5th grade son loves them.

Have a great night.

March 31, 2019

Thank you all so much for showing your Pup Pride this past week during SATCO and Panda Express Spirit Nights which are going toward the playground goal of $46,000. This goal is still very large and intimidating but much less than the originally quoted price of $140,000. That number was brought down by asking numerous companies for better quotes, a very large donation of rock from Rogers Group, stating we will use our own volunteers for removal of old material and placing new materials under the supervision of the playground flooring company, and use of equipment that will be donated. We know this is still a lofty goal but with everyone’s hard work and support, we are getting so close at approximately $9,000 to go!

All that said, we have more events coming up beginning with another Spirit Night opportunity tomorrow, Monday, April 1 from 4-8p at Panera Bread. You will need to show them the paper or digital flyer for Prescott to get a portion of the proceeds. Tell everyone you know!

The next open PTO Meeting is this Tuesday, April 2 at 11:30. The focus will be on planning field day and the remainder of this school year’s PTO events.

The last Pup Store of the school year is Friday, April 5th from 7:30-7:55am. Smencils are almost gone, so get them while they last! We also have a limited supply of the “Class of...” shirts to be used to measure your child’s growth each year from now until they graduate high school! And be looking out for info coming home soon on Field Day Pup gear.

Finally, start preparing for our Change for Change on the Playground event! The first full week of May we will have a competition between the boys and the girls in each grade level to see who can bring in the most change for the playground resurfacing project. The winning side for each grade level will get a designated day to dress up as SuperHeroes for saving the day! So start saving that change from grocery shopping, look under the cushions of the couch, have the weird uncle pull some quarters out of ears or drop them out of noses if you’re really brave and have some germ x handy. Hey, this is a great opportunity to have the kids clean the car, just tell the they can keep any change they find! FYI, foldable change will also be accepted.

March 6, 2019

Hello Prescott Families, this is Dale Bryant, your school counselor with some important notes.

Please, please, please, please, please, a thousand times please, I am begging you, please, do not hold the PreK outside door open for other people to enter our building. You are letting out our heat. You are letting flies in. Who knows who that person is that you are letting in? They could be a vacuum salesman, or, worse yet, a politician! Everyone must show ID and their face to the camera in order to enter. This is a safety issue that we need your help to address. It’s not as big an issue at the front door because we have our bouncer, Ms. Amy, right there at the front desk. But we need your cooperation to keep that back door safe. Thank you.

We love trees. Trees are good. Trees clean our air and help us breath. We want to save the trees we have, so we are asking everyone to sign up for Peachjar. Peachjar has nothing to do with peaches or jars, but it is the method we are using to send out electronic flyers full of wonderful information. This way we are not using a ton of paper which is made from trees. Which we love. So please sign up by clicking on the Peachjar icon toward the bottom of our PSES website.

And finally, some PTO updates. The PTO Supply Store will be open this Friday, the last day of school before Spring Break, from 7:30 to 7:55. The very last supply store of the school year will be held on Friday, April 5th, also from 7:30 to 7:55. Two final opportunities to stock up on everything blue and green before our long summer break.

And speaking of green, the next PTO $1 treat day will be on Tuesday, March 19th, to celebrate St. Patrick’s day. Look for green cookies, green icing, green cupcakes and more. I have it on good authority that all the PTO members will be dressed as Leprechauns and will be speaking with an Irish accent throughout lunch. So bring in a $1 and take your pick from all the traditional and authentic Irish treats...or a cupcake.

Everybody have a great night.

February 28, 2019

Hello Prescott Families this is Dale Bryant, your school counselor. This will be a serious all call with information that you may want to listen to without your children present. You can then decide what you would like to share with them in a family discussion after the call.

As much as we would love to shield our children from hearing about things that frighten them or worry them, that’s just not a realistic goal. Kids hear more than we think they do. They often understand more than we think they do. And there are things in the world they live in that will scare them at times. The most recent item to come up in the news is about the Momo challenge. Channel5 news, Fox news, CBS news, several local police departments, and numerous social media posts have been talking this week about the Momo challenge. Information and misinformation have been spreading like wildfire through the internet and through our school. Kids talk to each other. On the playground, at lunch, sometimes during class (which is discouraged, but still happens), and older kids talk to younger kids on the bus. So, as much as we, as parents and educators, would love to shield our kids from this stuff...they still hear about it. We had reports today that children from 1st grade to 4th grade were upset and scared by what they were hearing. I spoke with children individually and to 2nd, 3rd and 4th grade classes during Encore.

I’ve done some research on the issue and I encourage you to do the same. Today, I attempted to reassure the children that I believe this to be a hoax and I went over internet safety once again. I made sure each group had a chance to ask questions and voice concerns. And I made sure I left each class on an upbeat note with smiling faces telling me goodbye.

Cyber Safety Expert Denise DeRosa, says the challenge, whether real or rumored, serves as a reminder for parents to know what their kids are doing online.

“You don’t need to know about every platform and every app and every device out there, but you do need to know and understand your kids favorite apps, their favorite games, their devices,” she said.

Experts say even if actual threats from Momo aren’t real, the rumors alone can be frightening for kids and can encourage teens to participate in risky dares.

I encouraged the children to talk to their parents or guardians about what they see and do while they are on the internet. I told them that the adults who are responsible for them, must know what they are doing online as our primary responsibility is to keep them safe. I told the children I am available to them if they are still concerned about the issue and I am happy to speak with them one on one if they need me. Please let me know if you would like me to speak to any of your children specifically.

Thanks and have a great night.

February 12, 2019

Good evening Prescott Families, this is Dale Bryant, your school counselor with just a couple notes.

Safety is one of the most important considerations here at Prescott and we try to do everything possible to keep your kids safe. Sometimes we need your help with that. So please remember to show your face to the camera when you are buzzing the door to be let in. This is for the front door and the PreK door. At the PreK door, we need to see your pass, but we also need to see your face in the camera. Again, this is for the safety of your child. I think you will agree that is important. The final request we have for entry door safety is mostly for the PreK door. Please do not hold the door open for someone else to enter. Everyone who enters must show their pass and face to the camera. If someone is running up behind you asking for you to hold the door, just point to the sign we have posted on the door that says you are not allowed to hold the door. Game of Throne fans know that if you hold the door, bad things happen. If anyone gives you a hard time about not holding the door, please send them to me. We will sit down and watch Game of Thrones together.

And now a word from that famous romantic, Pepe Le Pew.

Ah, my wonderful parents. Valentine Day is coming, it will be here soon. I know, many of you will want to send ze beautiful flowers and balloons to your beautiful children. But know this. All those beautiful signs of amore, will have to stay in the main office until after 2:30 to limit distractions and loss of instruction time. Ms. Amy would love to smell ze beautiful flowers and partake in some helium from the floating hearts so that her tiny voice becomes even more tiny. But remember, those displays of love will not be allowed on ze bus to go home. Alas, the little cherubs will be forced to throw them in garbage receptacle instead of taking them home. Beware, beware, my dear dear friends, and perhaps refrain from bringing such displays to the school. Au revoir mon ami, Au revoir mon cher. Until we meet again. Au revoir.

February 5, 2019

Hey Hey, Boo Boo. I was walking down the halls of Prescott and I saw a bunch of empty pic i nik baskets. What’s going on?

Well, Yogi, those are not picnic baskets. Scout Pack 651 is having a food drive all next week and they decorated boxes for each class so they can collect food to give away to kids who need it.

Hey, Hey, Boo Boo, I think that is a wonderful idea! I will donate this honey comb I just took out of the tree and the pizza I took out of the Ranger’s car.

Well, Yogi, that’s nice but the scouts need unexpired goods and non perishable items.

Oh, you mean like Twinkies and Jerky?

Well, Yogi, I really mean like cans of soup and cans of vegetables. Or maybe dried goods like pasta, or cartons of juice.

Hey, Hey Boo Boo, The kids at Prescott must have really big hearts to do this for their fellow students.

Well, Yogi, you are right. But just to show how much their donations are appreciated, the class that donates the most food will win a popcorn party from the Scouts.

Hey, Hey Boo Boo, that sounds good to me! I think I will donate this delicious tuna sandwich I have been saving under my hat.

Oh, Yogi.

February 1, 2019

PTO has a meeting next Tuesday, February 5th at 11:30am in the auxiliary gym, and it is open to any Prescott Pup parents, grandparents, or guardians. They would love to see many new and old faces and are looking forward to hearing any ideas or suggestions.

Friday, February 8th, the PTO will have the monthly pup store. This month will have smencils, smickers, hi lighters, and paw print items as well as Valentine's day themed notebooks, pencils, and erasers. Spirit gear will also be available. We still have a few of the $3 and $5 clearance shirts as well as the graduation class of shirts for $10. Be on the lookout for a flyer next week with pictures and details.

PTO also has a treat day coming up Tuesday, February 12th. They are selling $1 hot chocolate with Valentine marshmallows to be made and delivered to participating students during their lunch times. Send your student’s $1 in a labeled bag/envelope to their respective teacher on or prior to the morning of the 12th. Please send exact change or check. If choosing to pay for another child as well, please write a note being as specific as possible so the PTO can know how you want the extra money used.

If you use the front car line for drop off in the morning, please have your kids hop out of the car if the line stops and your car is anywhere from the playground on up to the nice lady holding the stop sign. Even if it’s cold and raining, please let them get out of the car. If you wait until your child can get out under the awning, we will never get all the kids in the door before the 8 o’clock bell. Today we had 13 kids from the front car line that received tardies. I think it was Shakespeare that said it best; Neither rain, nor snow, nor coldness of morning should keep your kid in the car while that long line is forming.

And finally, please consider visiting my page of our PSES website and completing a survey for the counseling program. It’s a way for you to help guide the program so that it best meets the needs of our students.

January 9, 2019

Happy New Year, Prescott Families. I hope you had a wonderful break with lots of great food and fun with your families. This is Dale Bryant, your school counselor, with just a couple quick notes.

We are back in the swing of things here at school. Kids are learning and growing everyday! We will have our first PTO Supply store this coming Friday morning from 7:30-7:55 with school supplies, fun stuff, and spirit gear. Some of the shirts are only $3! Get them while they last! And, speaking of the PTO, keep an eye out for the January Newsletter arriving soon.

Lastly, Report cards for the 2nd quarter will be delivered electronically tomorrow night to the email we have listed in Powerschool. If you have received report cards to your email in the past, do nothing. You are all set. Do not call Ms. Amy and ask if your email is in Powerschool. It is. However, if you have never received an email from the school with a link to your child’s report card, then we probably do not have your email listed in Powerschool. In that case, please call the school tomorrow morning, before noon, to have your email added to Powerschool. If it’s easier to communicate with your teacher through an app, feel free to tell them your email and they will get the information to Ms. Amy or Mr. Dale before the noon deadline. To make sure we don’t have 50 people calling at one time, I have created a calling schedule;

Please call between 8:30 and 9:00 if you are allergic to cilantro.

Call between 9:00 and 9:30 if your favorite color is aqua marine.

Call between 9:30 and 10:00 if you have a dog named Sniffy Longdroppings.

Call between 10:00 and 10:30 if you moonwalk when no one is watching.

I think you see the pattern. You can speak to Ms. Amy, Ms. Leanna, Mr. Dale, or your teacher to get your email in the system.

Thanks and have a great night.

The Open PTO Meeting is tomorrow the 4th at 10:30am in the auxiliary gym. Along with going over necessary PTO items on the agenda, there will be potluck finger foods to share, an ornament exchange, and tacky attire. You don’t want to miss this one! The PTO will also be prepping materials for craft day next Monday the 10th during tomorrow’s meeting and would love to have more volunteers for that.

Speaking of craft day next Monday the 10th, the PTO is asking for volunteers to come spread holiday cheer by helping the students create their crafted gift. There is a sign up genius on the Facebook page, or you can email the PTO to sign up. Participating students will be crafting in the auxiliary gym during their encore times.

The last Pup Supply Store of 2018 is this Friday the 7th from 7:30-7:55am. This will be a holiday themed store with new holiday pencils, pens, erasers, and notepads, and to further meet your gifting needs, the PTO also has new long sleeve shirts and sweatshirts.

November 30, 2018

Hello Prescott Families, this is Dale Bryant, your school counselor, reporting the news of the day.

Cookeville is expecting a visit from Queen Elsa of Arendelle any day now that should last about 3 months. During this cold spell, there may be days when the adults monitoring the morning car line may do so from the doorway to avoid frostbite. Please remember to drive with caution and start unloading when your car stops anywhere past the fire plug. If everyone waits to unload until you are at the front of the line, all our students will not make it in the doors by 8:00am.

Now to Kermit in the field.

Kermit the Frog here with a muppet news flash. There have been sightings of a baby elephant buying a suitcase. Reports indicate that the suitcase was needed because his trunk was too small. Back to you, Mr. Dale

Speaking of things that are too small, we simply have no room available on campus to accommodate fast food meals during the winter. Federal law prohibits fast food in our cafeteria due to our federal funding. During warm weather months, the picnic tables are available outside the cafeteria hallway, but during winter please bring homemade food or purchase food in the cafeteria if you are coming to eat with your child. Kermit.

Hi ho, Mr. Dale, scientists report they have successfully created the first dog magician. They are calling it a labracadabrador. Back to you Mr. Dale.

We have special Santa Claus art prints available for sale at the front desk of the school. Various sizes and styles are available. These prints have been donated by the original artist and 100% of the proceeds will go to the PTO for our playground surface project. Please stop in and take a look at these wonderful pieces of holiday art. Kermit.

Kermit the Frog here with another muppet news flash. A local farmer has reported an angry sheep and an upset cow in his field. They are in a very baaaaaad mooooooood.

Thanks Kermit. And finally, next week will be a non-holiday dress up week at Prescott South Elementary! Donations will be used to meet the general needs of the school.

Monday, December 3-Fact or Fiction

Dress up as a character or item that is either fact or fiction

for a $1 donation!

Tuesday, December 4-Decades Day

♪50’s-80’s♪, your pick! $1 donation!

Wednesday, December 5-Futuristic Fun

How will people dress in the future? You design

it and wear it for a $1 donation!

Thursday, December 6- Green vs. Blue

What can you wear that is all green or all

blue? What color will win? $1 donation

Friday, December 7-Favorite Team

Baseball, football, soccer, hockey, or any other

team qualifies for this day of team spirit and fun!

Donations are requested but not required to participate all week.

Hey Mr. Dale, Maybe I’ll dress up like Pigs in Space on Wednesday.

Kermit, I bet I know what color you will dress in on Thursday!

I don’t know, Mr. Dale, It’s not easy being green. Having to spend each day the color of the leaves.

Have a great night.

November 26, 2018

If you or your child preordered Chick Fil A chicken biscuits for tomorrow morning, they will be in the auxiliary starting at 7:15. Please be there in enough time for them to eat and get to class by 7:55.

The PTO will have an open meeting next Tuesday, December 4th at 10:30am. We encourage you to come join the fun with potluck finger foods, tacky holiday sweaters, and an ornament exchange!

The next Pup Supply Store is Friday, December 7th from 7:30-7:55am. The PTO will have new items that would be great as gifts such as new long sleeve shirts, sweatshirts, hoodies, and more. Please do not send bills larger than $10 with your child unless you send a note with the child stating what they are supposed to buy. Please be specific in your note if you are wanting the child to buy larger items such as clothing, so we know your student is spending what they are allowed to spend. You are always more than welcome to come in and check out the store as well.

It is beginning to look a lot like....Humphrey! That's right, it is time for Prescott Reads, Winter According to Humphrey. The schedule is on the school home page and so are the audio recordings if you click on the book icon.

November 14, 2018

We’re here in Cookeville, TN in the vast broadcasting studio of Prescott South Elementary School. It’s us, the Kratt brothers, I’m Chris and I’m Martin. Hey, Chris, I just realized how similar our voices sound on the telephone, wink, wink. Martin, you don’t say wink, wink you just wink, oh, never mind. Let’s just tell the folks at home why Mr. Dale asked us here today. Sorry to interrupt, Chris, but about Mr. Dale, don’t you think he’s just the best! Why, yes, Martin, I have to agree. I do think Mr. Dale is pretty awesome. Gosh, Chris, I just wish there was some way we could show our appreciation to Mr. Dale for all that he does for the kids in this school. Well, funny you should mention that, Martin, because the PTO has actually listed all of Mr. Dale’s favorite things on their Facebook page and the PTO website. In fact, all the faculty and staff have their favorite things listed at the PTO sites, so don’t just get a lot of stuff for Mr. Dale, make sure to throw a bone to your favorite PSES employees.

Hey, Chris, speaking of bones, Mr. Dale wanted us to announce the theme for CSI night is Archeology! Uh, wait a minute, Martin. That doesn’t seem right. We don’t study dinosaur bones! We have adventures as cartoons! Ohhh, then the theme of CSI night must be animation! Come on out this Friday night from 5 to 7 to learn how to draw cartoons! Whoa, whoa, whoa, Martin. That’s not what I meant. The theme of CSI night this Friday is animals! That’s why Mr. Dale asked us to do this phone call. We are animal experts! Wouldn’t it be great to be roaming the Serengeti with a large group of mammals, or swimming in the Amazon river with some reptiles? What if...what if...Uh, Chris, don’t we usually turn into cartoons at this point? We’re on the phone Martin, remember?

Oh, yeah. You know, all this talk of roaming and swimming is making me hungry. Well, Martin, you are in luck because the PTO is sponsoring a Chick Fil A Chicken Biscuit Fundraiser! Orders are due by Tuesday the 20th and The PTO will be set up from 7:15 to 7:45am on Tuesday, November 27th in the Auxiliary Gym with water, cups, napkins, and the biscuits. Students, remember to get to school before 7:45 so you have time to eat and be in class without rushing.

Yesterday, some of us left our intrepid adventurers with hunger pains waiting for the Chick Fil A Chicken Biscuit Fundraiser which is on November 27th. And now, the continuing story of a quack who’s gone to the dogs.

Chris, you know I love me some Chick Fil A biscuits, but I’m hungry now! Alright, my little wildebeest, let’s head over to the new Cookeville Publix supermarket. We can get a fresh made sub, or some delicious fried chicken and maybe some cake or cookies for dessert. That sounds great, Chris, and I can use my new Publix rewards card so that Prescott South Elementary will earn a percentage of the sale! Wait a minute, Martin. Are you saying I could set up an account at my local Publix and designate Prescott South Elementary to receive money from Publix every time I buy groceries? That’s right, Chris, and it doesn’t cost you anything! Publix will pay the school from their profits! Information on how to sign up will be on the school’s website, on PeachJar, and on the PTO’s Facebook page. There will also be a flyer coming home soon with the information and I bet you can even sign up at Publix.

Well now I’m hungry too, Martin. Let’s say goodbye to the nice Pups of Prescott.

Keep on creature adventuring. We’ll see you on the creature trail.

November 9, 2018

Hey there Cats and Kittens, This is Dr. Johnny “slightly higher than normal temperature “we’re gonna take a break from the noise of life for some public service announcements from the mighty PSES in Cookeville.

Come on out to the Mighty PSES this Saturday from 8-12 for the The Clutter to Cash Yard Sale in the gym. It’s your big chance to help the environment by relocating the clutter from our gym to your home.

Don’t forget the Open PTO Meeting is next Tuesday, November 13th 11:30-12:30. It’s your big chance to have your voice heard in all the PTO happenings at the mighty PSES. Wear your favorite team’s colors or gear! Or risk public ridicule.

And, I know we have not yet stuffed ourselves with a ridiculously oversized bird and fallen asleep on the couch during halftime, but the PTO Christmas Craft forms went home this week and they are due back November 16th. It’s your big chance to let the PTO know if you have any questions!

Now let’s get back to those stacks of wax and keep it rollin with this golden oldie from the mighty PSES in Cookeville!

Everyone have a great night!

September 11, 2018

Ladies and Gentlemen, boys and girls, Children of all ages! Welcome to the Prescott Elementary Carnival!

A Big Top size thanks to all who have participated in our 10 from 10 fundraiser! We have 75 students who have already raised at least $100 dollars each!

The top three classes to this point are:

In 3rd place - Ms. Roberson’s class

In 2nd place - Ms. Justice’s class

And in 1st place - Ms. Beach’s class

The top three classes will each get an ice pop party to celebrate their efforts!

The top two fundraising boys are Sam and Henry Cranford.

The top two fundraising girls are Oakley Harris and Nadia Difurio. The PTO will have a special treat for these top fundraisers!

Our pups have worked hard, but we are less than halfway to our goal. If we cannot get to our goal we may have to do another fundraiser to help support our budget for the school and classroom needs as well as having fun school wide events such as the carnival, field day, and more.

But there is still time! You can still bring in 10 from 10 money through Thursday! And if you want to dunk or silly string any of the participating teachers, Anyone can bring $100 to the carnival!

The Dunkees are; Mr. Dale, Ms. Zamer, and Ms. Barnes!

The Silly Stringees are; Dr. Jones, and some mystery teachers to be revealed during announcements this week.

So come one, come all to the greatest show within walking distance to the Dollar General! It’s the Prescott South Elementary Carnival!

The joyful emotions expressed are not necessarily those of Mr. Dale who was under the impression he would be eating Dunkin Donuts and just found out today what kind of Dunkin everyone was talking about.

September 9, 2018

FREE Carnival for all students this Friday, September 14 from 5-7 PM! All students who reach the goal of $10 from 10 ($100) will have the choice to dunk Mr. Dale or Silly String Dr. Jones or a mystery teacher to be revealed this week. 100% of the money raised will go to the school. There will be free games, cotton candy, balloon animals, face painting, and Domino's and Backroom Bistro will be for sale as food options.

Morning Car Line Rules-

**It is safest for you and your child/children to use the car line during drop off. Our campus is not pedestrian friendly during drop off and pick up.**

1. All cars must park in a lined parking space.

2. Do not park in a handicap space without a handicap license plate or hang tag any time during the day; it is against the law.

3. After 7:45, there are no parking spaces in the left lot as you turn in. Please park in the far lot to save time if you must park.

4. Do not walk up to get a child from the car line unless you are walking a child off campus or picking up a daycare/Pre K child who must be signed out.

August 29, 2018

$10 from 10 starts today through September 11! $100 incentive is to dunk Mr. Dale in a dunking booth or silly string Dr. Jones! There will also be mystery teachers to dunk or silly string, so don't miss out! There is an open PTO meeting Tuesday at 11:30 AM. Please join us!

August 26,2018

The PTO will not be able to take any late order forms or T-shirt sponsor forms after Monday at 10AM. If some are unable to pay the $7 for their student’s t-shirt, that is completely all right, but we need a form turned in to get them the correct size. Separately, September 7th is the due date to become a Pup Pride Partner with the playground fence banners option, which is $250 for the year.

Car lines are running smoothly, thank you. Please do not walk up to get children in the afternoon. Please do not leave unattended children in your car, and please do not leave a car running and unattended anywhere on campus for safety reasons. The safest way to get your child to school is through the car line.

August 8, 2018

Please download the free PrescottSouthElementary App to have school information at your fingertips!

Kindergarten students have their first full day Friday, August 10. Morning and afternoon traffic will involve more cars, so plan accordingly. Kindergarten parents are invited to the PTO Boo Hoo/Ya Hoo breakfast in the auxiliary gym from 7:45-8:30 Friday. PTO has their first open meeting on Tuesday, August 14 at 2:00 PM. Bring your child's car tag, so you can get your child after the meeting.

We will have an intruder drill Wednesday, August 15 during the school day.

School Pictures are August 16.

Parent Conferences are August 20 by invitation. You are welcome to set up a conference with your teacher as needed throughout the year.

Thank you for a smooth start to the school year!

May 22, 2018

There is no school tomorrow, Wednesday, the 23rd. You may want to drop your kids off out of habit, but please resist the temptation. We will be open from 8 to 10am on Thursday, however, to pick up a collectable, limited edition, paper report card as well as honor roll and perfect attendance certificates. It is an actual school day and counts towards attendance, but you can just stop in to wish your teacher well, pick up your report card, and be on your way to summer.

If you are already on a beach somewhere by Thursday, we will be emailing electronic versions of the report card on Thursday at 10am.

Next year we will continue raising funds for our playground resurfacing and we will also do our $10 from 10 fundraiser in September to raise money for other school needs. Your help is greatly appreciated.

I hope everyone has a wonderful and safe summer. Please continue to encourage at least 20 minutes of reading every day.

May 15, 2018

Wednesday and Friday this week will be Talent Show rehearsals. Please make sure you have any equipment you need for your act here at the school on those days.

Thursday the Pre-K classrooms will be visited by a fire truck. There may be some lights and sirens for the kids enjoyment, so don’t be alarmed. Along those lines, thank you so much for the First Responders who came to the school today to let the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd graders explore and ride in the vehicles. And thank you PTO for a great Field Day event!

Friday at 8:30am we will have the 4th grade graduation in the Auditorium. If you would like to take your 4th grade student home after graduation, this will be a school excused early dismissal. Please sign your child out with their teacher in their homeroom after the graduation ceremony. And bring Kleenex.

On Monday the 1st grade will be going to the Strawberry Patch and the 3rd grade will be going to Standing Stone. Please watch for any grade level information coming home concerning those trips.

On Tuesday we will have the Kindergarten Celebration of learning at 8:30am and the Talent show at 1pm. Both of these events will be school excused early dismissals. Again, sign your child out with their teacher at their homerooms after the events.

Also on Tuesday we will have the Pre-K graduation at 6pm. More Kleenex may be required.

And finally, a reminder that there are 13,680 minutes until Summer vacation.

If you are one of the 18 families that signed up to have a booth, also known as a parking space at our sale, we have a couple changes. Due to the threat of snow on April 7th (I can’t believe I just said that) we will be having the sale in the gym. We will still be open for set up from 6am to 8am, but participants also have the choice of setting up on Friday afternoon, from 3:30 to 6pm. Remember, we will be dismissing children in the front car line until 3:30, so please do not start unloading until 3:30.

Also, on May 8th from 5:30-6:40 there will be an evening orientation. This will allow parents the opportunity to see the building, do a meet & greet with the faculty, hear school rules and classroom policies and ask any questions they might have.

June 5 Report Card Update

PCSS is prepared to send Report Cards home through School Messenger. Parents may continue to contact schools to update email addresses. If you have not been able to check your email address in PowerSchool, you may check through your child’s contact information. When PCSS receives the scores from the TN Department of Education, we will immediately begin the process of finalizing report cards for release. The approximate timeline for release of HS report cards is on or before June 9th. Our intent is to release report cards for Grades 38 on or before June 20.

As a reminder, report cards will be released via School Messenger to parents with email addresses in PowerSchool. If an email address is not available in PowerSchool, parents may go by the school to pick up the child’s report card, or the school will mail if you dropped off a selfaddressed envelope.

We apologize for any inconvenience the delayed release of the Report Cards may have caused. PCSS is committed to a timely release upon receipt of all necessary information to ensure report cards will be correct. Any questions may be directed to the Office of Teaching and Learning, Denette Kolbe at 9315254710, or kolbed@pcsstn.com.

Previous year's yearbooks are for sale in the office $3.

***Please pick up all medication in the nurse's office between 8-10 Tuesday, May 23, 2017 or it will be safely discarded according to School Board Policy. ***

5/19/17

PCSS will be sending 2017 Report Cards electronically this year via School Messenger.

To ensure that we have all contact information correct in the system, there will be a delay in the release of report cards. This is a secure process.

Please take the following steps to help us. Check your email address in your student’s contact information in PowerSchool. If you don’t currently have an email address on file, contact your child’s school with that address. Report cards will be sent as soon as all information is verified.

Our goal is to have all report cards released by the end of May.. If you do not have current access to email, you may send a self-addressed envelope to the school or go by the school to pick up a printed copy of the report card once they are released.

As we close the 2016-2017 school year, PCSS would like to thank all parents and guardians for your support throughout the school year. The success of our students hinges on our partnership with our families, students, and the community as a whole.

Dear Prescott Families,

We are so excited to see everyone Monday. I wanted to call and let you know all the exciting things going on the first two weeks of school. That’s right, the first two weeks!

Our Book Fair will be open starting July 27-August 2 during the school day and Friday from 5-7 during the Back to School Carnival. Please contact Mrs. Laura Shaver lshaver@pcsstn.com if you are able to volunteer with the book fair. She needs as much help as you can give! (Book Fair Link)

Back to School Carnival, what? That’s right! We are having a back to school carnival with free games, balloon characters, face painting, and much, much more! The carnival will be in the PreK / Daycare loop Friday night from 5-7. If it rains, we will move the event to the gym. There will be food available for purchase.

In response to parent requests, we are going to have one fundraiser this year. We are asking all families to ask at least 10 people for $10 by August 5. We are calling this “10 from 10”. 100% of the money raised will go directly back to the school. If it is successful, we will not have a tumbler sale or Doggie Dash. All checks should be made out to the Prescott PTO. Our Carnival is the party to celebrate the fundraiser. The only prizes purchased will be lunch for the top boy and girl fundraiser who will have lunch with the Principal, and the top fundraising class will have a snow cone party. We hope this is a huge success!

Smart Cards will be for Sale- many families look forward to these, and they sell themselves.

One last thing, if you haven’t, please go to the school web site and register your Kroger card with our school. (Register Here)
