2. Math practice. Math homework will be sent home to review the lessons taught in class and/or students will need to practice math facts.

3. Vocabulary will be introduced and practiced in class, it will be connected to our readings in all subject areas; there are no spelling tests this year.

4. Technology: We are a one to one laptop school which allows us to dive into our learning. We will be using our laptops daily, with many of their on-going projects will be worked on during school hours. We will use Google Classroom for much of our work as well as Google Docs and Slides.

5. Students will have dictations and recitations every couple weeks. This reinforces public speaking, spelling, vocabulary and grammar, fluency and memorization. Often dictations will be taken from our reading or themed units of study.

6. FRENCH homework. Madame Arcand will assign homework to reinforce what is done in class. Often it will be literacy related or science related.

7. Longer term projects will be assigned around Science, Social Studies or Writing.

Our school theme this year is Dr. Suess's Oh the Places we'll Go!

We are so excited for our journey in 5th Grade DLI this year at Trailside

Communication with families is through direct email and Bloomz, an app and web interface that helps teachers and parents connect about what is going on in the classroom.

Bloomz can work on your smartphone or computer. Should you wish to not use the app or interface you will still receive updates through email. We feel it is a wonderful way to share photos and announcements about what we are doing in 5th Grade DLI at Trailside, and stay connected with parents.

Parents should feel free to contact both DLI teachers through email with any questions, thoughts or concerns. We ask that both teachers be contacted in an email as we are a team and want the best for your child.
